It’s not a system for reporting that you broke the law willingly, as already mentioned. It provides no protection from that.

You’re also not reporting yourself to law enforcement.

And slow down. You’re not getting anywhere any faster doing 80 over short distances, you’re just being a dumbass. :)

Simply get back on the freeway and drive forty, then average the speeds, and you are good.
 
Keeping track of the 8 in 24 hours is not as straightforward as some might think, since it's a rolling 24 hours. It would be easy if the calculation was from midnight to midnight. However, you can run into a problem if, for example, you fly 7 hours between 1300 and 2200, then go home to sleep. You can only fly one more hour up until 1300 the next day.
