"Don't land with wheel pants in the snow" they said. Yep.

This is after one landing, on an unplowed runway, with one inch of packable snow. The tires didn't roll anymore.

My plane will be pants-less for the rest of the winter.

Don't come to a complete stop using the brakes in loose, fluffy snow.

    Don't ask how I know.....

Another version of the lesson would be don't land on unplowed runways. Had wheel pants on my Cherokee for a decade with no problem at all.

I've seen an airplane have a wheel pant knocked loose on takeoff by snow and rotated 180 around the axle so the pant was covering the bottom of the wheel. Made for an interesting landing.

There is a reason I took Kate's pants off . On a diff note, it was raining here today when I landed, then I had to freeze my hands off wiping her down with about 10 microfiber towels. I am pretty sure the wheels will be iced up next time I want to fly and the temp is in low teens.

I thought you inverted them in snow & they became skis.

When I had my 172 I always pulled the wheel pants for the winter.

Ah, the counter-intuitive nature of aviation: "Remove pants in snow."

But the cold and no pants leads to severe shrinkage.

I leave my pants on...it’s what everyone wants.

Only landed in snow a couple times. I like the nice soft touchdown. Ice is a different story...ice on a slope is real fun.

Edit: ice in a tie down divit is real fun. Always carry a screwdriver...

Our most memorable experience with snow was trying to take off to fly mother-in-law home early one morning after a rare NC snow and they declared they weren't going to plow the runway. Mark got on the com and said they WERE going to plow the runway because if we didn't get MIL back home something bad was going to happen. They plowed the runway.
