Closest I came was when after having some electrical work done to my plane I smelled smoke right after takeoff. I told the tower at the mixed use field that I was shutting off the master and returning to land. By the time I touched down the entire ANG CFR brigade was chasing me down the runway. I expected to be washed down with foam.
