I got my debit card stolen...

by the way, Tomahawk - sorry to hear about all of this.

I will not use a debit card in a restaurant. I will only use it when I actually have my eyes on the person swiping the card - or grocery stores, gas stations, etc. I've used it online for "secure transactions" on occasion but wonder if I'm just buying time and should not use it for those sorts of things, full stop.

Oh, it's not that they don't notice, heck, I'll even comment as I'm signing a $2000 fuel ticket "Glad it's not my card". It's standard that the captains of these boats have one of the owners credit cards to handle bills (Sometimes the boat even has a card with it's name on it.) My point is that it doesn't really matter! Anyone can sign for any card, it's completely legitimate so long as you have been authorized by the card holder to use it. The default position is, unless the card was reported missing or stolen, the holder is authorized to use it.
