I, yes, IIIII, was exclusively invited to go party with some local EAA dudes!

Really it's "just" an open house, but I thought that was pretty cool. They must go through the licensed pilot list within a certain distance of them...?

I think it's a great idea, I might actually go just to see what there is to see. That marketing worked; send me a personal invite in the mail for brats and chips and a potentially interesting presentation, and I'll strongly consider it!

I can report back if the EAA dudes seem "approachable" or whatever (I'm not a member), but actually mailing a letter trying to get (all kinds of) people out to their airport seems pretty nice so far.

Enjoy, just put something like this on my idea pad for our chapter last night.

Enjoy, you might even meet some like minded pilots.

I dropped AOPA and joined EAA this summer. I go to the chapter meetings, utilize their tech counselors on my plane build and go to flyins when they have them.

I might consider rejoining AOPA if I start watching AOPA Live again... I just can't stomach Melissa Rudinger as a newscaster, it's painful.

I actually ran in to one of the local EAA chapter presidents randomly at a burger place (no aviation connection) and we started talking. I might check them out.

Been a member since the 70's, great group but they, like most of GA, need younger members.

With absolutely no apologies to Billy Ray's crotch fruit:

I hopped off the plane at GYL with a dream and my closed flight plan
Welcome to the land of geritol, whoa! am I gonna fit in?
Jumped out the plane, here I am for the first time
Look to my right, and I see the open house sign

This is all so boring, everybody seems so ancient
My skin's not wrinkled and I'm feelin' outta place
Too many gray-hairs and I'm nervous
That's when the FBO turned on the radio

And the Unicom was on
And the Unicom was on
And the Unicom was on

So I put my hands up, they're playin' my song
The Cessnas fly away
I'm noddin' my head like Yeah!
Movin' my hips like Yeah!

Got my hands up, they're playin' my song
And now I'm gonna be okay
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!

Get to the hangar with my iPad
Everybody's lookin' at me now
Like who's that kid sittin next to me?
He's gotta be from out of town

So hard with octogenarians around me
It's definitely not a young man's party
Is that guy standing over there James Monroe?
I guess I never got the memo

My skin's not wrinkled and I'm feelin' outta place
Too many gray-hairs and I'm nervous
That's when the FBO dropped my favorite tune

And the Unicom was on
And the Unicom was on
And the Unicom was on

So I put my hands up, they're playin' my song
The Bonanzas fly away
I'm noddin' my head like Yeah!
Movin' my hips like Yeah!

Got my hands up, they're playin' my song
And now I'm gonna be okay
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!

Feel like hoppin' on a flight,
Back to my hometown tonight,
Some old guy stops me every time,
The FBO plays my song and I feel alright

So I put my hands up, they're playin' my song
The Pipers fly away
I'm noddin' my head like Yeah!
Movin' my hips like Yeah!

Got my hands up, they're playin' my song
And now I'm gonna be okay
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!

So I put my hands up, they're playin' my song
The Grummans fly away
I'm noddin' my head like Yeah!
Movin' my hips like Yeah!

Got my hands up, they're playin' my song
And now I'm gonna be okay
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!
Yeah! I'm gonna party with the EAA!

(Of course most of you have no clue what song that is)
For the rest of you, you're welcome.

EdFred! Ow! Now it's stuck in my head!

that was awesome EdFred! love the customization you did. EAA should steal that, people would laugh.

We met the - back then - local EAA chapter president at an airport diner... We talked shortly, were at the next chapter meeting and were EAA members very soon after the first meeting. No regrets - we have never experienced a more active and nice pilot community.

Have fun at the EAA party!
