OK, so here's the deal. I live in an apartment complex and each apartment has to pay $95/mo for DirecTV, internet and phone (if you even have a landline which we don't). We don't have the option to use Cox, DishNetwork or any other provider.... only this Pavlov crap which uses DirecTV as their cable/dish provider.

On Thursday 12/12 we started noticing the TV was acting funny in that programs would randomly skip or stop for a moment. Then Thursday evening it quit completely. I called Friday morning around 9am and they said it was a "level 2" problem and that someone would come in 3 business days to fix it. Fine..... whatever. So today I called because I was expecting an ETA for either today or tomorrow.... well their horrible phone service wouldn't accept my zip code so I had to "live chat". She said that I didn't answer my phone 3 times so they moved it :confused::confused::confused: I never got a phone call :dunno: so my appointment was moved to Friday. I expressed my discontent that this was happening and she said a service rep would call me today. Well the afternoon came and went (while I had my phone on loud during a CFII lesson) and nothing happened. So I phoned and FINALLY got through to someone tonight. She told me that the service was ORIGINALLY scheduled for Friday not "3 business days". I've been a CSR, so I get it's not her fault but I know she has authority to move priorities around... all she would do was "make a note" on my file. I asked to speak to a manager to which I got "managers are only here during business hours" YOU'RE IN INDIA I BET IT IS BUSINESS HOURS! :mad2::mad2::mad2:

So yeah, how can I handle this all? I've remained very clam on the phone and tried my best to understand but I just can't. My apartment complex is useless "Well it's not our problem it's Pavlov's." BUT YOU MAKE ME PAY FOR THIS!??!?!:mad2::mad2::mad2:

Local television consumer affairs reporter loves stuff like this. I also wonder if the mandatory fee for services that you may not want is another consumer affairs issue. A note to the state utility agency complaining about lack of service and poor CSR is always useful. Companies like this really hate public awareness.

India, eh? I spent a lot of time with Cox CSRs before Verizon finally got FIOS and I could ditch the hosed up coaxial plant. I had learned (on the internet) how to put the set top box in to diag mode and read signal strengths and check other status (provisioning). When I know it wasn't a signal strength issue (but rather misprovisioning), I'd make calls like this:

CSR1: Good Afternoon, Cox communications.
ME: My downstairs set top box is not working, it shows <brief description>
CSR1: We'll send some one out.
ME: Wrong answer <CLICK>

CSR2: We'll send some one out.
ME: Wrong answer <CLICK>

CSR3: Let me look at your provisioning parameters in the computer here.
ME: Very good, I'll wait.

I always tend to ask these people during the course (of longer calls) where they are located. Most of the Cox people seem to be in Atlanta.

By the way, if you have exclusive use (balcony, whatever) of an area that you CAN install a dish, federal law preempts your landlord from preventing you from using other services.

Yes, but not from requiring him to pay for the other. So he could fix the problem (the the extent that satellite TV would fix it), but he'd still be paying for the stuff he's not using.

I'm fairly sure yes. They all have the same accent, maybe next call I can ask where they're located cause we all know there will be a next call.

Since living on my own I haven't had a single month of cable, and I'm happier that way. Dump cable - you'll be happier, too. And if you're going to be a homeowner, you'll have many more things to do with that $95/month.
