I've said this before but it all started when I moved to New Orleans, when I was on the bottom of the ocean working, it is pitch black with all the mud being kicked up and in fact your eyes would naturally just close and stay that way, it was very relaxing, but in my brain I would always be reciting Jackie Gleasons lines from the first smokey, I would just get to laughing and having a good time while doing my work. I still do it to this day when I am welding or something. His lines in that movie are classic and should be preserved for all of time.

I just watched your clip... and there is a quote in there of:
"Daddy, the top came off"
"No ****!"

Except... that's not the correct quote! The words I remembered is:
"Daddy, the top came off"
"You don't say!"

And the way he delivered the "You don't say!" line was iconic - it's much funnier than the "No ****" line, and it became a goto sarcastic response of mine when I was young.

It turns out this was overdubbed by Gleason for the TV version, which is the version I watched ... many many times... I spotted the "mistake" in the clip you posted above in about a millisecond, even though I haven't seen the movie in decades. Unfortunately I can't find a TV version of that clip.


Also from IMDB - I remember this scene as well - apparently only in the TV version - sad that it wasn't in the theater version.

I catch "The Honeymooners" late at night before going to bed. It is still one of the greatest comedies on Tv.
