Reapeatedly tried to copy and paste with differing results but all failures. Previously, I have not had a problem.

Are you using the “upload a file” button in the lower right next to “post”?

if so, how big is the file? If it’s very large, it’ll get rejected.

My appoligies, I should have been more specific. I was attempting to copy and paste a photograph.

Same thing, it won't work if it's too big. I typically have to reduce my images to 25% of the original to get them small enough to paste here. Easy on a computer, trickier on a phone.
 
Also, make sure you're not inadvertently uploading a png instead of a jpg.
 
I have never copy and paste a picture, maybe it is possible? I always put it either on my computer or Iphone/cloud or photobucket before posting it on a forum.
 
Or you could do what I did - try to upload a plane pic and end up posting pics of your family :(
