Someone recommended a BBQ joint off I20 between Augusta and Atlanta. I need that info repeated again please.

Found it. Heavy's in crawfordville. Gonna risk it and try GA BBQ one more time.

Be careful, we use real barbeque sauce, not that mustard stuff from South Carolina.

I'm not sure I've met anyone who likes that garbage.

If you ever get a chance, try Big D's BBQ. Ive only seen them in northern GA near Lake Lanier. Very good food.

Be sure to give us a pirep!

Interesting place. I was the only one there. Thought I was stuck in some sort of horror movie.

The food, not interesting. I never learn.

Gray, no flavor pulled pork. I don't believe it was smoked at all. Tasted like crockpot pork. Watery vinegary sauce.

I hate to write a bad review because the folks and service were nice but they really need to step it up in the BBQ dept.

Oh well, good thing I'm on my way to Memphis.

Yeah I'm from the Memphis area. I put SC and GA BBQ in the same place, typically the dog bowl or the garbage. This joint was no different.

Now that I think about it, it was an ole miss grad that recommend this place. Looks like he got one over on me.

Have you tried Sconyers BBQ in Augusta? It is in the area where you get on Bobby Jones Expressway from Hwy 25-Peach Orchard Rd. It is the log cabin looking building off to the right as you are going up the ramp onto Bobby Jones.

Here's some fish BBQ for you beeotches. Take that Bart.

Okay, I feel better now.

Just off the highway, on the west side, maybe 800 miles, is a BBQ place called Kansas City.

Last night I had some ribs at an ex pat bar in the downtown area. I did not qualify them as BBQ. In fact I think they boiled them. Given that 99% of the ex pats are Brits with a few Ozzies thrown in there, I guess they can pass it off as BBQ and get away with it.

Lived in KC for the past 3 years and just moved to Georgia. I would have to agree with Matthew - I miss Oklahoma Joe's ribs.

Hmm... Why would I do that then have to turn south and head to Memphis. Much quicker to take HWY78/I22 out of Birmingham.

Thought you wanted BBQ? Oh well, to each their own...

:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Yikes...anything BBQ related should be moved to the Spin Zone!!!:D

Debate over BBQ always ends up worse than religion or politics.

I still need to get to Memphis to check out their Q.

One of of these days...

I'm a little gun shy with GA BBQ. I may stop in in the return trip.

While rendezvous is OK, it's still a tourist trap. Let me know when you go. I'll make your itenaray for you. :D

KC Q is in my blood (literally, you should see my cholesterol numbers). I've sampled at least a half dozen different TX joints, same with Carolina-style places, but no Memphis.

And that place in Milwaukee that claimed they had BBQ was lying.

Cranky Franks in Fredericksburg, Texas. Excellent brisket.

Just sayin'...

That's nice to know, but do they serve BBQ? :D

Side note, my plane slung a rod and was dead sticked into Fredricksburg where it received its current engine.

Good to know.

And yes, they make stunningly good brisket (the kind that is never dry and requires no sauce, though their sauce is good), as well as excellent sausage and ribs (yes, there is some pork).

If you do, then don't waste your time at the rendezvous. I gave it not one, not two, but three chances when I was regularly going to MEM. It sucked!

Interstate BBQ was pretty good. You have better in KC though. Far better IMO.

Substitute Denver for Milwaukee and the statement still stands...the bbq chains have invaded and the only independent I go back to is Hog Heaven in Bailey. Rod's crew still makes fine q.

Tried a new place the other day - they insulted the steer (brisket was tough and tasteless) but the ribs were marginally edible. The sauce was down right horrible, they used apple juice which made it too sweet and it had a metallic taste.

Well, interstate and rendezvous are the worst two BBQ joints you could have visited in Memphis. That's not to say they're awful, I used to live 1/2 mile from interstate and only ate there twice. You've eaten at Rendezvous as many times as I have and I lived in the area for 27 years.

I still make it to MEM a couple of times a year, I'm open to suggestions!

BTW...good food, not BBQ...Folks Folly. Oh, and Owen Brennan's out at Germantown.

Edit: oh, and I forgot, Germatown Commissary was pretty good as was Central. Still prefer KC.

Not a commissary fan. Central is getting on the right track. Try the BBQ shop on Madison next time your there. Blues City cafe has excellent ribs, showboat for pulled pork, rib tips at Toms.

I'm sure you've been to Gus', if not make that your next stop.

It was "okay". I spent most of my time in the Germantown area since that's were FedEx's HQ is...hence the Folks Folly and O. Brennan's references. Love Brennan's...sometimes I head to MEM just to eat there. I can be sitting in Brennan's in 2+45 (if the cops don't catch me ;) )

Thanks for the heads-up on the others.
