Great series! Parts 2 and 3 are mislabeled on YouTube, watch them in this order:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZQSqtAxnr0

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHCVUsx8K7M

Part 3: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QMS4oEhf6sE

And if you like that, watch this Boeing video on the B-17 Supercharger / Induction System training, this being part 1 of 3 as well, I'll let you find the other two parts from the links on the right side of the page!

I love it!

"Time to find out just how far you can go with her and still stay friends" at 0:50 in part 1.

I figure that my Dad is about 65 years out of currency, so I forwarded a copy to him

)

Absolutely fascinating.

The part in the second section where they talked about not deviating from the settings prescribed in the flight computer reminded me of Fate is the Hunter where they were flying DC-3/C-47s and C-87s over the Atlantic and they figured out that the 'scientifically determined settings' were bullocks.

I enjoyed many of the references to the engineers and their slide rules.

"And I asked him if his slide rule could measure the fortune of one man against another..."

I also like how so many of the instruments aren't much different than what we still use today.

I was looking through one pilot's OSH photos on FlightAware.com (he took and posted a picture of N912VM, the 182 I flew), and found this picture he took of a B17:

He also got a nice picture of P-38 Lightning:

A BT-13:

And a P-51 Mustang:
