I'm trying to do an overnight cross country to the Washington DC & Philadelphia area and would like to keep the plane I'm using in a hangar overnight instead of a tie-down. When I look at ForeFlight or SkyVector / AirNav, the information about short-term hangar rental is pretty spotty. Is there a better source or way to figure this out? Or do I need to pick up a phone and actually call each airport / FBO?

Call.

And don't be surprised when the answer is NO WAY. Or the price is a bit high (I recently saw someone was quoted over $600 for ONE NIGHT).

I know at my airport, the FBO is the only source of transient hangar space. It is largely dependent on if and how many of their based corporate fleet are out of town, and how busy the shop is at the moment.

99x out of 100, they can’t / won’t give a definite answer until after you arrive. First come, first serve.

My experience too - this is often the case.

I even had one fbo promise space (we booked/confirmed weeks in advance) arrived, reiterated our confirmed hangarage to the line person who said they'd put it up.... and the next morning the plane was parked on line, soaking wet from overnight Tstorm - another wasted tip and potential a/c damage. "oh we didn't get it done sorry"

Even upon arrival may not get you a definite answer; Signature at another ClassC fbo could not tell me -as I was exiting the fbo- if the airplane would be put inside or not.

Call is the best bet. And then call right before takeoff to let them know you are coming and need space
