One for each engine and one for the airframe? If not, how do you keep track of airframe time?

One hobbs, frequently wired to the landing gear squat switch. Time in service is time in the air, not engines running time.

The Hobbs meter or recording tach isn't like a car odometer. There's no requirement that it map 1:1 with the actual time in service. You'll need to cross reference the log books.

Many have two, one for the airplane/engines and one for the heater. A very few have two recording (hour meter) tachs and I've seen a couple with one for the engines (controlled by an oil pressure switch on one engine) and one for the airframe (controlled by landing gear position or squat switch).

True! I do have one on the heater, but you have to climb up in the nose gear well to see it.

The Seminole I flew had 3. One for the heater, one for the airframe (controlled by squat switch) and one for the engines when both were running.

Charlene has two one for the airframe and one for the heater, I have never looked at the one for the heater and I can't read the airframe one. I can read it, I would have to put on my glasses and get down on my hands and knees to see it and it just isn't that important to me. :D

Yep, that's the big switch between owning and renting! The Hobbs goes from most expensive instrument on the panel to least....:D;)

The Aztec had 3. Master switch, air switch, and heater. The 310 has 2: air switch and heater.
