I changed the name of a few cells in an Excel worksheet and now I want to restore the default name but cannot find a way to do that. For example if I select cell F2 and then type the name Vd into the "name box" (left end of the formula bar) the cell at F2 is now named "Vd". How can I set the name of that cell back to the default "F2"????? I've tried deleting the name in the name box with the cell selected and entering the default name (F2) but neither seems to have any effect. This is Excel 2000.

A little googling suggests you can't do it until you remove that name from all formulas.

click the cell.....click insert, name, define...
in the box that appears click on vd or whatever its name and click delete...tada worked with excel 2003

That worked, thanks.

Menu command Insert->Name->Define also offers the ability to delete names
