Hey guys, I don't post here much but I am constantly reading the forums. I am a Private Pilot from Houston and am looking for somewhere new to fly. I have covered a lot of the North Houston airports but have not been south in quite a while. Can anyone suggest any neat airports in the Houston area? I'm not sure if there are any but I figured I'd ask. Thanks for the help.

If you get a chance check out Redbird in San Marcos. Neat place, they have lunch out there at 11-2 M-F. I would suggest Brenham too, since that is close to you. Great food on field.

I understand the restaurant at Brenham (11R) is open again, and I can personally vouch for the Aviator's Grill and the line service from Gill (which shares the building with the restaurant) at Hooks (KDWH). Just be careful what you're doing if you're landing on 17L/35R -- it looks like a taxiway, not a runway, and you really don't want to confuse it with 17W/35W (the seaplane ditch).

You might spread your feathers a bit and try Fredericksburg (T82)... Not too far, and a nice day trip.

Consider April 19 at Fredricksburg...the Colorado Pilots Assoc is having a flyin that weekend. Should be lots of fun!

April 21st is the date of our Fly-in at Cannon Field just south of San Antonio as well.

If you're looking for a cheap $100 BBQ run, but very good, try Lockhart and go to Chisholms.

I would recommend Port Aransas. There's a neat little aviation themed hotel there that has a courtesy car, and is within walking distance of a dozen fabulous restaurants...

:D

Thanks for all of the recommendations! I will give them all a visit in the future!

N'Orleans for a crawfish binge?

Carl's BBQ at Weiser. The diner at Brenham. Fly to new braunsfels and eat at the Grist Mill in old town Gruene.

Fly to Livingston and camp lakeside with your plane.

Fly to Galveston and hit seawall.

Fly to lake Charles, Shreveport or oakdale Louisiana and have the nearby casinos come get you for gambling.

Fly to Laredo and walk across the border to shop.

Oh yea. Fly to new O lakefront and go get char broiled oysters at Acme.

Forgot that one.

Also Brazoria county had a nice restaurant. Check to see if it's there.

If you want to land on turf, Wolfe Airpark in Manvel is great even when wet- it's solid with a crown profile.

Brazoria County (now "Texas Gulf Coast Regional", but still LBX) does in fact have a good restaurant. It's the "Crosswind Cafe", and it's right in the middle of the field. (Check their hours before you go--they're posted at AirNav at the link above.)

They're very good! Maybe it's blasphemy to say this, but I like the food there better than Brenham's. (Brenham's got them beat on atmosphere, though.)

Jennings Louisiana...land on the grass and get a decent burger in one stop.
