My daughter is having some testing done at Cincinnati children's hospital next week. Looks like we will have to stay in a hotel two nights, any recommendations? The hospital isn't in the best area. I would like to avoid the bad parts of town, and everything downtown is priced high. I spent a few hours around Blue Ash flying there before they closed the airport, it seemed nice. Any suggestions?

It has been a few years, but I stayed here when I flew with my regional:

It was a nice hotel, nice area, good German food nearby.

Hope all goes well with your daughter's testing and it is not serious. I know that is terrifying. I have never been as scared as I was when I was told my then 3 year old daughter needed to see an oncologist.

That's couple miles from where I work. When I interviewed I stayed at the Drury Inn in Sharonville. It's not that bad of an area really and prices seemed reasonable (although I wasn't paying).

There was a great Hilton Garden Inn near Blue Ash I stayed at while taking a boat restoration course. The only other times I've been to Cincy I've bitten the bullet and stayed down town at the Hyatt or the Hilton (the latter is a real pretty art deco building).
You are right they are pricy, but nice places.

The Hilton downtown won't be convenient to Cinci Children's hospital and parking is rotten, but it is a cool building.

That's right up by the UC campus & the Clifton neighborhood ("gaslight historic district"). I lived right near there for a few years.

You've got a couple of good options: there's the Kingsgate Conference Center that's technically part of UC, but run as a Marriott hotel. Book through Marriott. Nice facilities, literally across the street from the VA hospital & UC Medical College, and about 2 blocks from Children's IIRC. There's a brand new Hampton Inn less than a block from Kingsgate (in other words, about 3-4 blocks from Children's).

Those two are probably the best in the area of the hospital.

The waterfront in Covington (just across the river from the City of Cincinnati) has a couple of decent places - a Marriott, a Courtyard by Marriott, and an Embassy Suites. The views from the Marriott & Embassy Suites are great, no real view from the Courtyard. Courtyard and Embassy Suites should be priced reasonably. They are about 10-15 minutes by car from Children's.

There's a new SpringHill Suites by the casino (Eden Park/Mt. Adams area). About 10 minutes to Children's. I think there's also another new hotel up near Rookwood Commons/Hyde Park area. Hyde Park is under 15 minutes to Children's.

Plenty of stuff as you go further out. You can usually find deals at the Wingate or Courtyard in Blue Ash (Wingate is across the street from the old ariport).

Those are definitely the most convenient. If you want to experience a classic hotel, the Netherland Hilton Downtown is usually my choice. The Art Deco Bar and Orchids restaurant are excellent.

Cheers

Yep, Nederland is excellent as is the Cincinnatian. They are pricier, however, than the ones I listed.

I dont specifically know that area, but when my wife and I travel we have not been misguided by tripadvisior for both hotels and restaurants.

You just have to throw out the extremes and filter through some of the BS reviews, but we can always figure out where we are going to go before we get there.

We love to travel, and use this website to find some pretty cool local places that you would normally just drive by for fear of life or health, or never see due to being in some uncles backyard.:)

Thanks for all the responses. I'm partial to that win gate mentioned above. I had stayed there once before. Won't really have time to look around too much so probably end up in a La Quinta knowing my luck!

Hope the kid's test is good news....:yes:.......

Anyone stay at the 21c museum hotel down town?
I just looked it up on tripadvisor, it was rated #2 and looks like a pretty neat place to stay, kind of a mid century modern feel.

May be pricy, but cool looking and 3 miles from the children's hospital.

Yes I forgot, thanks for the well wishes for my daughter. This will be our 2nd trip to Children's Hospital. We are going for more thorough neurological testing as a preventitave measure/plan of action for some issues. Seeing some of the things some of the families there are going through really puts things into perspective. Thankfully for us ours is relatively minor.

Have you checked into staying at the Ronald McDonald house. It is adjacent to the hospital and caters to families of children that are in the hospital?

I'll let the OP determine if he meets the intended criteria. The house is a wonderful charity with some funding from Mc D and a lot of volunteers who help keep it going ( my wife used to be one in another city.)

For over 30 years, Cincinnati’s Ronald McDonald House has been providing critically ill children and their families with a “home away from home” while their children receive medical treatment at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center or other area hospitals.

I thought about that. But I would be afraid of taking up space for someone who may need it more than we do.
My wife's family is in the McDonalds business. We actually do a benefit for our local chapter here once a year. It's a great organization, I have had the opportunity to volunteer several times. I had a family member use the Cincinnati Ronald House a few times for his son.

Stayed at Hampton inn on Vine St. Newer updated building, all the bells and whistles. Not too far from the hospital( literally across the street) and UC. Even talked the wife into lunch at Sky Galley at Lunken.

Most important, got the news I wanted hear regarding my daughter.

Wonderful to see/hear! I certainly know that's a relief of a certain magnitude.
