For those of you who stay in a motel/hotel when visiting Airventure, which town do you normally like to stay in? In the past I’ve stayed in Green Bay as the prices don’t multiply like in Osh or surrounding towns like Appleton, but this year I noticed that the prices increased there as well; a Motel 6 that was $85 per night the weeks before and after jumped up to $150 per night. Not nearly as terrible as the increase closer to Osh where it would be over $500 per night (for a low-budget place, a more luxurious hotel can cost over $1k). So this year I’m staying in Oconto, which is north of GB on I-41. It’ll be a longer drive to/from the airshow and I’ll likely be fighting sleep on the drive home, but it’s worth it to save the .

But the airshow is not the only thing I do when I visit WI. Last year I drove to Sister Bay and walked all around town and also took the ferry to Washington Island and rode around. I also went to a shipwreck museum in Mantinowic. This year’s I’m planning on driving up to Marquette MI and exploring. I’ll attend the airshow on a Wednesday so I can attend the nightshow, but I usually only go for one day. I have attended two days in the past, but all day being in the sun tires me out and I didn’t enjoy the 2nd day as much. And as much as I love attending Airventure (it’s the primary reason I visit WI), there are other fun places to visit in WI.

So where do you typically stay for Airventure? Do you bite the proverbial bullet and stay close to the airshow, or do you stay further out? I’ve contemplated just staying one night in a motel close by and spending the rest of my stay farther away, but I don’t really want to even do that. . And where else in WI do you like to go besides the airshow?

I was a user of Green Bay for years, but last year I stayed at fort Atkinson south of Osh.

Oooh, you had a long drive just like me. 84 miles from there to Wittman Regional. Oconto is 85 miles, but I have a straight shot on I-41 with 70 mph speed limit whereas you were on 151 where the speed limit is lower. So your commute may be slightly longer. But again it’s worth it to avoid those cutthroat motel prices.

I stay on the field for the whole week, so I don't know about hotel prices.

I have heard that hotels near my house are still reasonable, but looking at the options right by 41 they're still bumping rates up 40%. :o Just a bit further south, this place seems to have the same rates both the week of and the week after Airventure, is very convenient to I-41 and is 75 miles on mostly 70-mph interstate to get to the show.

If you're only doing a day, I'd stay the before portions down here in the Milwaukee area and see things there, drive up for the show, and keep going north after the show. Milwaukee has plenty to do and see - Brewery tours, Brewers baseball, Harley-Davidson museum, the Safe House, the Mitchell Park Domes, and of course don't forget to get your picture taken with the Bronze Fonz.

Afterwards when you go north, visit the National Railroad Museum in Green Bay, hike part of the Ice Age Trail, visit the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore or any of the numerous excellent state parks we have, tour a creamery and eat some cheese curds, tour Lambeau Field, do a fish boil in Door County (and have some cherries while you're there), or a zillion other things. What sorts of stuff do you like doing?

I’ll have to check out the Harley Davidson museum.

May I put in a suggestion to check out RoadAmerica, one of the USA's premier sports car racing road courses? It's surprisingly close in Elkhart Lake, WI at N 7390 WI-67, Plymouth, WI 53073. https://www.roadamerica.com/

Just think of them as airplanes with the wings lifting the wrong direction!
