I have an airplane again! :happydance:  :happydance:  :rollercoaster::rollercoaster:

My A&P-IA and I finally finished up the reinstallation of my Musketeer's OH'd engine this week and put a fresh annual on the plane. First flight was this morning. I flew for about 1:40 to start the break-in process. Engine ran fine, made good power. No gushing oil, no flames, no departing cylinders, no holes in the crankcase. So far so good! My landing sucked, but I haven't flown this plane since last November and I need some practice.

Boy, it felt good to get that bird in the air again!

Awesome!!! Fun being a test pilot, isn't it?

Congratulations and good luck

Congrats man, that's fantastic!

Soo glad for you!
Do you notice a particular new engine smell in the first few hours after overhaul?
Maybe it’s the paint, sealants heating up.

Yep, absolutely. From the smell, I think it’s mostly the paint, but there are a bunch of fresh goops and lubes.

Congrats! Enjoy that new engine smell...

My plane sat for about 6 years, until December 2024. A couple of days after I got it back in annual, I finally got the insurance company to issue my binder. ("New computer system.")
I did my three takeoffs and landings in 15G25, because, dammit, I could. They sucked. They were safe, but I might have left a kidney on the runway at one point.

I have a factory-rebuilt engine on order now. I have to keep mine going until it is ready.
