An acquaintance asked me to help brainstorm and plan a surprise 90th birthday for his grandfather.

First on my mind was the parade at Washington Marine Barracks, but it looks like parade season ends in August. His birthday is sometime in September. I could give a call and see what they say.

I am posting here hoping for ideas for a good Plan B, better Plan A, and/or resources to help pull this off?

Do a couple of tables with his old memorabilia and pictures, frame any articles from the news papers he may have kept. Put up maps of where he was stationed. Display his metals and have him explain what they mean.

Not so sure a surprise party at 90 is a good thing, get him involved in it.

Not a surprise party, but a special event that is unknown.

Contact your local Marine Corp for suggestions.

Depending what his Marine Service entailed, the local Civil Air Patrol just hosted a 90th Birthday celebration for a military aviator. Had it in the hangar, open house style, lots of old aircraft and old cars around.

Maybe the local VFW post or American Legion will have some ideas and offer to present an honor guard.
