about to embark upon my Instrument training with an independent CFII, and he has inquired re my Homeland Security Check status. I am a US Citizen and I presume this was all recorded somewhere/somehow about 5yrs ago when PPL training was started. How can I define this?
It strikes me that being a Citizen with a current Passport should suffice. Guidance from CFIIs here please?

Shouldn't that already be endorsed in your logbook?

The flight school should have it on file, but since he's a freelance, just show him your birth certificate or passport and that will suffice.

I'm away from my Log Book from then - first place I'll look. Thanks!

He is following the Rules laid down by Homeland Secuity. He does not know your past history of if your are a FORNAT here on a green card. He needs to verify your US Citizenship. Show him your Birth Cert, or US Passport.

And press on.

Also if he does need to check, he also has to keep records. Many CFIs will ask to keep a copy of the documents you presented to cover their ass.

In other words, don't be "offended" if they ask to toss it on a copy machine or take a cell phone photo of it.

Just one of the many "freedoms" we all get to appreciate now. ;)

Thanks all, will present him my Passport and a copy thereof.
