I was just wondering how many cards people are receiving at home in anticipation of the holidays... Do you decorate with them/use them for home-made craft projects and save them after the holidays, or look at them once and into the trash/re-cycle bin they go?? Do you send out cards to all of your closest friends?? I was just thinking that I have been seeing a decrease in the number of cards I have been receiving in comparison to years' past and wonder if that was a general trend or am I just less popular now than I used to be? :dunno: By this time in years' past, I would have at least enough cards to cover my fireplace mantle one row deep or so... this year, I have only 3 so far and one of them was from a charity I donated money to this past year. LOL.

we've been getting cards lately. need to get ours out. they go on the mantle for a while and then in the recycling whenever we have time, usually by June or so.

We don't get all that many. Mrs. Steingar used to send out a really crafty thing every year, but not so much lately. I think we just don't have the energy we used to.

I used to send out cards and receive them, but after I started sending them out, I've received them less.

Might have something to do with the Santoria holiday cards. Maybe images of decapitated goats on a table with candles doesn't get taken quite the right way with some folks.

Well, I just got back from the post office after sending off my 2 baskets of crafty things that I finished this morning and was reflecting on the tradition. I'd still do it even if I got nothing in return because I like doing it, but was just wondering how others felt about it.

I'm on to wrapping gifts now. Having fun with that too! :D

Have to finish what I'm making for China. Not easy getting something for the guy who has everything, but I think I have it nailed.

Like I said, I think it's just an energy thing. Mrs. S used to every year, and they were always pretty cool. Of course, the other thing is she moved away from graphic arts and is doing far more with fiber arts these days. Personally, I think it loads easier to do holiday greetings the former and to make scarves with the latter.

You know, I really would have thought that you would have been the one to make something fold-able to send out at holiday time!

I do challenging things with pretty big-time complexity. Doing a whole raft of simple pretty things just isn't my bag.

We put all of ours on a table in our dining room until the holidays are over with. The one from my local airport this year had Santa filling up a Cub...looked like his weight and balance was way off to me.

This year I had a card made with ObamaClause on the front with the following inside:
Money's tight and times are hard,
here's your're damned old Christmas Card!

Of the 12 I sent out; 4 came back with card pieces in the envelopes, 7 came back with various caliber holes in them and one came back attached to a box that is still ticking under the tree...

Merry/Happy Christmas everyone!

Chris

I have every card I ever recieved. Each year I read through some of them. I feel if someone takes their time to send me a card the least I can do is read, reread it.

We us a service called Send Out Cards (www.sendoutcards.com) We pick a card, personalize it and SOC sends out on the day we chose. It is awesome for birthdays, anniversaries. You pick out the day its sent.

We're just behind...your card is in the mail! :wink2:

If you send them, you'll get some back. I usually send mine out the early part of December along with the announcement of our annual Christmas/Holiday party. Well the party has come and gone but the cards are still here.
Maybe next week.

You should have had your party-goers help address and stuff envelopes during the party!

One thing we've noticed in South Texas is that very few businesses actually send Christmas cards out.

In contrast, in Iowa, every business would tack/tape their Xmas cards around the office/front desk, as a form of festive holiday decor. Here, you just don't see that. Apparently it's not a business tradition here? :dunno:

We still send 'em, though. And Mary still sends out about 75 personal cards, although she's culled that list down somewhat. I think more people are switching to those horrid on-line cards...

I have to send mine out...I actually was looking for them yesterday but didn't see any I particularly liked in sufficient quantity (I need about 70 for the current list). Our cards double as invitations to the New Years Day party so I have to get them out.

I've had a few dribble in so far. I'm not the kind of person who checks off every year to see if you "didn't send me one, I'm not going to send you one next year." I will generally add people to the list if they do send me a card (provided their social contacts and not something like my stock broker or some FBO that I landed at once).

I'm so with you on your feelings about online greetings at the holidays, but they are fast, easy to send en masse', and free. What's not to like?? I still enjoy making my own though... Always will. I purged my list down to about 50 close friends and relatives. Whew! As much as I enjoy doing it, it always feels good to have it done. One of my favorite Longaberger baskets is now serving as an "IN" basket instead of an "OUT" basket.

Our incoming mail service is so bad here we never know what to expect. Now that I have complained about it to the post master it is 10 times worse. Yesterday, we got mail delivered to 3 of our neighbors are a airplane parts package lost.

Well, it's an excellent way to meet up with your neighbors and wish them a Merry Christmas?? When you pick up/ exchange mis-delivered mail?? :)

Frankly, business cards pretty much go into the trash as nothing more than junkmail advertisements. Business communication masquerading as social correspondence.

My funniest one was the time I opened a card and found a picture of a strip mine on it. As I suspected the card was sent to me by a mining company I had done some consulting for.

Speaking of horrid, my deal with Mary is simple, and hasn't changed in 25 years: She does ALL the Xmas cards, and all the Xmas cookies, in exchange for me writing the annual family letter.

Yes, we send out one of THOSE letters every year. I've grown to despise writing it, but after so long Mary won't let me stop. And, I must confess, it IS fun to go back through them and see when the kids learned to walk, when they went to prom, etc.

So, I keep doing it.

We just finished getting all our cards out, sixty to date. Mary does the cards, I stick on the stamps and return address labels. We finished up while watching football today and recovering from last nights Christmas party at our friends.

Time to get a few things done then watch the Packers game tonight!!

We haven't done cards or a letter in a long time. I always liked the tradition (grandmothers were both huge on it) but we are both in busy seasons at work this time of year, so unless a couple of days magically appear on the calendar with nothing else to do, they don't happen.
