Hi All,

Pleasure to virtually meet you all. Newer to aviation, haven’t gotten the exam yet but want to know what I’m in for.

I WAS on SSRIs for the last 5 years or so. I was only on a single medication. At year 4 i had some gastric issues and was told the single medication was not absorbing correctly and another one was added. After about a year on 2 SSRI medications went back down to 1 and have been off all for about 6 months. Life has been going great, I almost feel better then when I was on them! What would you say the future is looking like? CogScreen and all of that stuff? Or a clean bill of health from my provider noting stability and that will satisfy? I have read in the thread multiple things about duel SSRI use, but I have to report them when I’m ready to get the exam from what my AME said. Curious if anybody has been through something similar.

Thanks and hope to see you in the sky’s at some point!

Fly safe!
Jake

Jake: was there the total absence of a psychiatry diagnosis- or was the SSRI "dual purpose"?

Thanks for the well wishes @sourdough44

@bbchien , there was a generalized anxiety disorder documented. I guess you could say it was duel purpose but all prescribed for the one diagnosis. I was being treated with 1 SSRI at first but since it stopped working or wasn’t working as well, the doctor thought it was due to my gastric issues and the “absorption” of the medication which is when the second was added. Seemed to have worked, not sure if it was the gastric issue but I’m not a doctor. Both have since discontinued closer to 7 months at this point compared to my last post. I do still see the doctor for routine “check ins” as they stated when medication is discontinued it should still be monitored for 24-36 months before being discharged from the practice. Not sure if that’s valid but with what I read when discontinuing medication I had no issues with that. I’m fortunate that my doctor is an actual MD board certified psychiatrist, versus a nurse practitioner. No disrespect to them of course, just saw some previous threads with NPs and it was suggested they transfer to the MD.

Jake,

A fellow Jake here haha. Take a look at my thread regarding SSRI use. I was in them a bit longer. Some other people chimed in in thier circumstances and one looks like they were on duel SSRI as well. I was in them but for >5 years. There’s another person chiming in now that was about 3.5-4 years. It may not be exactly what you’re looking for but Dr. Chein provided some information over there that maybe helpful to you and your circumstance. I’d be more than happy to connect and we can maybe get through this process together. Helps to have someone to vent to! It appears the process is a lengthy challenge but there is a small tiny light at the end of this tunnel, that will hopefully grow bigger by the day

Best of luck to you!

I have to admit I'm a member of the "International Association of Crusty Old Jakes."
