Henning?

I know he flys airplanes pilots yachts, and now I see he is an accomplished actor.

I watched the whole clip. Never saw the other guy pull out two goblets...

nah, not him.

Didn't say anything about hydrogen.

You realize that basically everything in creation is made out of hydrogen right? You know why that is? Because it is the most energy efficient thing to convert back and forth between energy and matter because it has the least neutrons. Neutrons are basically a waste particle, kinda like carbon in oil and gas deposits are in our current energy system. Similarly, they both release their energy by oxidation. Only thing is, with hydrocarbons you can't simply change energy back into oil because of all the extra energy it requires to add the carbon. That's why it takes nature millions of years to deoxidize the hydrogen out of the water in plant matter under great heat and pressure to leave us with oil and gas.

Hydrocarbons serve a much greater purpose as polymers rather tha energy. We are wasting a vital resource if we ever want to get out into space. Large space borne ships will have to be built in orbit. The only way to do that is to 3D print them with autonomous 3D printers working in gangs in orbit. The planned destiny for mankind is to go forth and multiply, we are failing to go forth, so we will go extinct and another apex species will form and maybe they will avoid our mistakes.

That will never be able to happen under our current economic structure though because we mandate that all our resources create the most money, not the most benefit. If we don't change that cultural paradigm, we perish; 9 billion people is maxed out on this planet, and if we don't get off we will not be allowed to keep the planet, we as a species will have failed. Just like the military, it's "up or out". We are not producing what we were designed to produce. As Trump would say, "We're fired".

Kudos 6PC....way to stir up the beast!!!;):yikes:

"You fool! You fell victim to one of the classic blunders - The most famous of which is "never get involved in a land war in Asia" - but only slightly less well-known is this: "Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line"! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Ha ha ha... "

See, I told you it wasn't H. in the video.

You're forgetting one thing H, the coming singularity with technology. Mankind will have no choice but to meld with it and become cyborg's to a degree.

That's when we become smarter, faster, and more hive minded. We will transcend into computer logic and move forward. Or skynet will blow the hell out of everything ...

We will not reach that point. Sky net is unnecessary, we kill each other just fine.

Wow. you expect people to listen to your advice when you don't know much about a lot of stuff but you spout as if you do?

Citation about neutrons being a waste particle? Or is this something you are making up? Or is this from your religion?

Plants do a great job at creating hydrocarbons, especially algae. One can replace the oil we get from underground with fatty acid esters from algae. The carbon provides energy, gets converted to CO2, and the algae picks it up again and recycles it. Pretty much all of our oil now was derived from plants. It is easy to "crack" the fatty acids from algae (or other plants) into the fuels we use now. People are doing this now.

What happens to neutrons in the conversion from matter to energy? If it is so easy to crack those fatty acids, (don't get me wrong, I'm all behind algae fuel) then why is it we aren't doing it except at the micro scale?

Each decays to a proton, electron, and neutrino in a bit less than 15 minutes, unless it's captured by another nucleus.

In hydrogen fusion, you end up converting (eventually) two protons into neutrons. Hardly a waste particle…

Most of the universe is hydrogen for a basic and very simple reason -- it's just a proton.

In other words, free neutrons turn into hydrogen. So, hydrogen is a waste particle, I guess.

"Conversion from matter to energy" isn't as easy IRL as it is in Star Trek. Protons are completely stable (or at least the half life is quite a lot longer than the current age of the universe -- no proton decay has ever been observed), so it ain't gonna happen unless you can find a free antiproton around somewhere.

I've enjoyed that movie several times!

1) An episode of "Community" has an homage to it.

2) Wallace Shawn plays a character in "The Good Wife".

Never saw Wallace Shawn so young. Of course the script was lifted somewhat from Isaac Asimov's Foundation, which itself was based on the fall of the Roman Empire.

The feedstock is still not being produced in any volume. For diesel or jet fuel, the esters work just fine with no further processing required.

As for the neutrons, MAKG gave some useful information. They also help the nucleus of the atom stay together. I'm not really up on that physics. It corresponds (somewhat) to closed electron shells in chemistry. Too many or too few neutrons in the nucleus for a given number of protons gives an unstable, or a less stable nucleus.
