HENNING Could Do THIS

Cool boat. The guy I bought my house from sailed around the world with I believe one other guy. It took them about a year, but they stopped a lot to sight see, etc. When they got back, they decided to do it again in the opposite direction. So baiscally they were on the water for most of two years.

I don't do solo extended voyages, in fact, I don't do extended voyages like that without three watches.

Stanley Paris vs. the shadow of Dodge Morgan. This will be interesting.

At 58 I think sixty days alone in the south 40s would be quite a trial.

I did a Southern Ocean delivery on a 40' Catamaran with 2 crew including my GF's dad. Thats about as minimalist as I wanna go. When we were secured to the dock in Port Lincoln the headstay let go, just sitting there furled up. It had held through 4 days of 35+ knt winds from abaft the beam surfing in 20+' swells with the bow wave making a deafening noise on the cross house floor.

Oh come on. Don't these boats have auto pilot these days? Line it up on the magenta line, engage and go to bed. How hard can it be? Besides, the title of the thread is "Henning could do this", not "Is this beyond Henning's comfort level?" :wink2::D

Remember he has to abide by the union work rules. Three crew members for every one job. :D

(and several "no show" jobs back at the dock)

Can isn't really an issue, even without electronics you can rig sail boats to self steer, it's the the 'lookout' requirements you aren't fulfilling. The first BOC race coming around Cape Horn one of the lead boats broke the keel went down, he was in the water with radio and survial rig and the entire fleet sailed past him asleep; he died. I've done my solo sailing. If you want a good read Webb Chiles 'Around the world alone' or something like that. He sets off on a defective Erikson 35 and goes nuts.

Years ago we set the autopilot on our sailboat to follow the LORAN. Unfortunately, my Dad and I are too accurate about how we plot courses, and the course line went right through a buoy offshore Atlantic City. The ocean was very calm that night, and visibility limited. The buoy bell was not ringing, or at least not loud enough to be heard over a 40hp Cummins diesel. The lookout is what saved us from fiberglass meeting metal.
