Shirley’s mom was a purebred Boxer. Her father was probably a Pit Bull. She loves to rough-house and play hard but she is good-natured.
This striking beauty will mature in the 50 to 60 pound range. She has a very sturdy conformation, beautiful markings and a twinkling personality.
Shirley was barely alive the day the animal rescue was called and was asked to please take this baby. She was dying. Her brother died the day before, and she was in a similar condition. She was immediately taken to the local vet and first she was tested for Parvo. She was clear. However, she was loaded with hook and round worms. Both parasites are very easy and very cheap to treat in puppies and adult dogs. But the baby’s fecal sample was dark liquid, mostly blood. She was bleeding to death…the 3-week-old baby’s gums were white. She was shutting down. Were they going to lose her?
“Do you think we have a chance to save her?” the animal rescue manager (Marilyn) asked the vet (Dr. Colleen). “Should we try and save her or will she cost us too much money to recover in an adoption?” Marilyn asked Dr. Colleen.
“It won’t be too expensive and this beautiful baby will SURELY find a great home” said Dr. Colleen as she gave her a B-12 injection combined with antibiotics. Then the tiny baby was given IV fluids. She was terribly dehydrated from vomiting and diarrhea.
Iron supplements, vitamins, more fluids, special wet food given with a syringe, and sprayed for fleas: this baby got the works.
Fast forward four months and this beautiful little dog still hadn’t found a home. Is it the “pit bull stigma”? Who knows…but Saturday was her last day of being juggled between foster homes, the shelter and the vets office because…
…we…
…brought her home!
Welcome Shirley!
You’re a fine addition to our clan!
