I'll be in Cleveland, OH for work for a few days this week. Not sure how much free time I'll have in the evenings, but is there anything that I "can't miss" while there if I do find a way to get out of the office early?

If you're in town Tuesday and really want a party, head down to East 4th during the Cavs game. That will be a great time.

If you don't have anything better to do then check out...

Moosehead Hoof & Ladder in Olmstead Falls. It's a pretty casual place to eat.

Also...

The Grille on Pearl Rd. in Brunswick

Or, for a really casual spot...in a casual dive sense...

The Winking Lizard in Peninsula.

Or if you're stuck in Cleveland proper...J. Gumbos is pretty decent. It's just north of the baseball stadium and arena.

I really enjoyed the Cleveland area when I was working up there.

I'll be up in the Mentor area. Not sure if that's close to anything or not.

My company doesn't usually have facilities anywhere near the fun stuff.

Rock and roll hall of fame
If your a fan of the Christmas story...the house is in Cleveland
West side market is on my list next time I get there.

I guess it depends on what you're interested in. I would head downtown, grab some dinner to go, and hang out in Voinavich Park. You'll be able to see aircraft operating out of Burke Lakefront, boats on the lake, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Science Center, and the Browns Stadium. If you're interested the Rock Hall is a great place to spend n evening walking through.

If that doesn't strike your fancy, the Art Museum in University Circle is great and is free admission. You might recognize the atrium as the filming location for SHIELD HQ in the Avengers. As mentioned above, the Crawford Auto Museum, which is in the same area, is also good.

Want a good meal? For the authentic Cleveland experience try the Great Lakes Brewery in Ohio City, or for the real Polish experience try to get to Sokolowski's. Or try a huge Corned Beef sandwich from Slyman's. Lots of good restaurants on E.4th too, although maybe a bit less local flavor.

I decided against going downtown last night with the Indians and the Cavs both being in town. I ended up driving down through Little Italy to scope out a place that had good reviews (Etna's). It looks really good, but it looked like one of those places where a single dude would stick out like a sore thumb, so I'll have to try to bring my wife back some day. ;)

I ended up taking the long route to Geraci's italian place. It was on Diner's Drive-Ins and Dives a few years ago, so I figured I would give it a shot. It was 'ok'.. Definitely better than the standard chain restaurant food, but nothing to write home about.

I think tonight I may try to head downtown.. Maybe the R&R HoF.. Maybe hit up Great Lakes Brewery.. Maybe try to get to Progressive to catch the game. 'Real' pierogis or corned beef sound amazing. Unfortunately, I'm stuck out here in Mentor and it looks like those little hole-in-the-wall authentic places are mostly only open for lunch. :(

Thanks for all the suggestions folks.. I figure if I'm going to have to travel, I might as well at least TRY to get out and experience the local area.

The Tribe has a day game-- they're playing right now and getting on a plane to Seattle afterward.

You'll enjoy Great Lakes. Good day to be downtown. I usually work right downtown, but the boss had us all go out to Strongsville because the Tribe game raised all the parking prices.

Finally got down to Great Lakes Brewing. That area looks like a pretty cool spot. I'm guessing several of those spots have live music on weekends. I wish Atlanta had an area like that.

Lakefront area seemed pretty cool. It was raining last night so I didn't explore much, but on a clear day I could see myself hanging out at that park watching boats and airplanes.

Overall, I'm impressed with downtown Cleveland.

Thanks for the tips.
