I did it.

I went for NY style pizza at a real NY pizzeria in Brooklyn.

I got a couple of slices and forced the first one down after draining some of the grease off of it!

Review:
Crust was ok, not a lot of flavor, but thin and crispy on the outside. The sauce was rather unremarkable, just the right amount of cheese and for a 2nd topping I did opt for anchovies. Something I love and they were down right.

I seriously do not see what the fuss is all about. The slice was good, nothing to rave about. Sure I would have it again, but the caveat of bad pizza is better than no pizza applies. Just for the record there are a lot of pies from Chicago that are equally unremarkable. I generally prefer thin crust, but I like the sauce with flavor and more cheese on a cracker thin crust.

In the end, I gagged it up

:D:D:D;););););)

Joking. It was a good dinner. I have to tell you the salad was really good. Very fresh tomatoes!!! Also the pizzeria had a great house branded root beer.

I'm proud of you, Scott. You even ate it properly!

Sorry I missed you. I frankly forgot all about it in the flurry of a couple of rush jobs I had to get done.

Which pizzeria did you visit?

It was ok. I joke about it. It was close to where I am staying by NYU and the people called it a typical local joint. I can see why it would be comfort food for people. One thing I do like is that a slice is a good meal of itself and that they can add things to it pretty easy. Even reheating a slice really was done right (putting it in the oven). I have seen places microwave pizza before serving people a slice. YUCK!

I think Jimmy's at Foster and Lincoln in the "second city" is supposed to serve up a good NY slice.

BTW there was the Red Sox/Yankees game on the TV to make the culture very thick!!!

Also I was surprised to see deep dish pizza there. Although they called it Sicilian and I did see a few people getting it. But most was the traditional thin crust.

FWIW Rich I was not sure I would have anytime. I played hookey from the organized dinner at some fancy steak house and did this instead.

Good, now you've eaten real pizza. :D

S'ok. I had two rush jobs this past week, one for a long-time client who actually pays his bills on time -- a rare thing these days -- so I was pretty busy myself. Would have liked to meet you, though.

Next time try to plan an extra day or two. The fishing's pretty good around here, and I can get instant guest permits for the reservoir for my guests. I got it like that.

Well lately I am preferring thin crust, because I don't want to fill up on thick crusts because the topping is what makes the pizza? So for now, no thanks on deep dish.

This adventure sounds interesting but somehow, perhaps cultural bias, I prefer Chicago style.

Thanks for the review.

Oh, for me, forget the anchovies. Gimme meat. Pepperoni, sausage, even ham, lotsa cheese.

That pizza looks yummy.....

The real question is............ Did that joint serve hotdogs with ketchup..:D

That is good, paying jobs are the best!!!

I have been so busy this month, traveling almost every week, that I have not thought about staying too many places. I spent an extra day in Europe last month to see Viking exhibit, the new Anglo-Saxon room at the British Museum and then out to Greenwich for a Turner exhibit. I did not have time to stop at the National Gallery for a once in a lifetime event of seeing both of van Gogh's sunflower paintings side by side. Next week I am back in DC.I am speaking at a summit on 5G. Sort of related to the conference I am at here at NYU where we are discussing some of the channel models to be used for 5G in the mmWave bands. Lots of stuff happening!!! But I will keep it in mind!!! Thanks for the invite.

Here is a the picture of the slices

It does indeed have a very good visual appeal. I watched their pizza making techniques. As a former maker myself I thought they were doing a very good job.

The real question is............ Did that joint serve hotdogs with ketchup..:D
Well it is NY. They don't know anything about hot dogs here, so it is possible. ;)

you are not supposed to clean the 'grease' off of it - geeze. The 'grease' on a cheese slice is olive oil . . . . heathens from the hinterlands. . . .

plus, if the scheduled dinner was in Brooklyn and it was at Peter Luger you made a very bad decision :D

You're supposed to take that shaker bottle of grated cheese and keep adding cheese until all the grease is absorbed, THEN eat...

Grease is where all the flavor is on a NY slice!
