I have two CrazedPilot CP-1 stereo headsets that were working normally last May when the plane went in for its annual inspection which is still in progress (waiting for engine overhaul completion and new prop). The headsets had been on the shelf and after cleaning up some avionics wiring I checked the radio (GTR200) and both right speakers are inop. I tested a different stereo headset and both speakers were good. Also, when inserting or removing the headset speaker plug the left speaker will work as it passes through the ring contact on the socket. Also testing the tip with a battery will produce a click on the left speaker, but testing the ring with the battery does nothing. Is there any DIY double shooting and/or repair options available or would it just be best to replace the headsets? Is it coincidence that both failed at the same time while on the shelf? They were purchased at the same time.

According to the literature I can find online there is a stereo/mono switch. Each headset ear cup has a volume knob on it, with the right ear knob having a "click" detent at one end of travel. It doesn't matter where the knobs are set, the results are the same (and the volume doesn't change much). The knobs were not changed when the headsets were put on the shelf. One of life's mysteries I suppose.

I have 2 crazed pilot headsets that I use for passengers, last time I used one of them the passenger reported that the one earpiece was not producing any sound. I have not gotten around to doing any trouble shooting yet. But seeing this post makes me wonder if there is an issue with these headsets.

I finally got around to checking my spare headsets. I am happy to report that in my case it was simply a case of the mono/stereo switch having been flipped.
