I'm flying this weekend from South Florida to KFTY. I checked Garmin Pilot for the most common route filed in a piston and found it to be:

KPMP DURRY T347.BAIRN ORL NOLLE MISSM HIDBI GAMSE BLSKY HESPI KFTY

I know that around Atlanta this route would be modified to circumvent around the Class B, so what are some realistic routes into Fulton from the south that I may expect?

IFR, VFR, and do you have altitude preferences? Personally, if I'm VFR from the South of Atlanta, I aim for Newnan/CCO and duck under the Class B North of that or aim for FFC and stay West of the <3,000' Class B shelf. That keeps you >2,000 AGL.

Yea, I should have mentioned that. IFR, probably 6,000.

FltPlan.com shows

SHANC T208 FOXAM SHRKS KERLY SHRLT.WRGNZ3

for a BE36 at 8,000 FLL-FTY.

If you're hungry upon arrival at FTY, there is a world class steak house attached to the FBO. You won't be disappointed!

What's the restaurant name? I don't see it on Google Maps.

ATL landing to the west? Plan on flying to the east of ATL, keeping low under the arrivals (3,000-ish) crossing over downtown, and landing Runway 26 on the WRGNZ3.

ATL landing to the east? Plan on flying to the west of ATL, keeping low under the arrivals, and landing Runway 8 on the BOKRT3 arrival.

Expect to be taken off an approach via radar vectors as you get close and moved around as necessary, unless you're able to hang with jet traffic.

I think the steak restaruant is at RYY (Elevation Chophouse).

Is this still true: "Last I heard the FBO charges a ramp fee if you go there. You used to be able to park on the ramp and walk directly to the restaurant, but they blocked it off and force you to walk through the FBO"?

Opps, you're correct... RYY has the excellent Chop House attached to the FBO. When I get back to the Atlanta metro area that's my airport of choice!

Also, be aware that ATC and FTY tower refer to the airport as "County".

If you're coming from the South and it's VFR you may be cleared directly over ATL into FTY. They'll bring you over at 4500', and then you can duck into FTY, just watch out you don't bust Dobbins' Class D airspace.

FTY is really easy in and out. I'd recommend using Hill Aircraft as your FBO. Excellent service, no charge for pickup/dropoffs for SELs and only $25/night for tie down parking.

If you haven't visited yesterday, it's gotten pretty expensive to go to RYY. They use Vector for billing, and as of a few months ago were charging $35/night for SEL tie-downs. Unless you need to be in that part of the city, I'd recommend FTY, or PDK ($20 handling fee, $20 night tie down).

If the weather is good and the land is flat, why insist on IFR?
