When a skier or snowboarder eats it on the slopes and loses all of their gear. If a skier loses his skies, poles, hat, goggles, and anything else, shout "YARD SALE" from the ski lift above him.
“the difference between a crash and a hard landing is that planes make it to the gate safely during a hard landing.”
-Klaus Goersch, COO Air Canada
That will buff right out...
A landing, even if hard, means the airplane is re-usable. THAT was a crash.
Appears to be a different airplane.
That guy is going to kill his beautiful young fiance. There are some people who shouldn't fly, and especially some people who shouldn't fly bush planes.
Didn't see any video except two people yapping. Where's the incident?
I’ve seen this guy’s antics in airplanes and jet boats on uTube.......someday someone’s gonna get hurt.
Were it me I'd not want the FAA involved if I could help it. Sure doesn't look like an incident to me.
I don't ever watch this clown ... tuned into one video and he's basically whoring out his girlfriend for clicks I guess ... I didn't click the video, was falling asleep and had youtube setting for "auto next video"
In his defense that's a pretty common tactic to get clicks. Literally one dude had his girlfriend washing his plane in a bikini... I generally unsub or ignore videos when they go that route. There's other sites much better suited to see naked ladies...
I’d rather watch the YouTube guys girl than him, something about his face also seems off deep in the primitive part of my mind
I'd rather watch Jerry Wagner wash his plane in a bikini.
Have you posted that to the comments under his videos?
I’m assuming that plane doesn’t have a trim?
LOL, no. I have not.
TMI! TMI! Where is the eye bleach?
Triple-Dog Dare ya!
The video says otherwise
I am not surprised
I guess there aren't enough of us just interested in aviation and that these youtubers feel the need to setup click baits.
Try posting a non-click-baity video giving a factual (as in consistent with the laws of physics) explanation of lift - you will get dozens of views...
It is what it is.
I'll never be able to unsee that.....
YT "influencers".... making 'STOL' Basic since 2008.
Hard landing had one as a new pilot never want to experience another.
“Really great pilot”
“On top of his game”
**In the background the broken plane that was stalled 10-15 feet above the runway**
I watch his videos and dozen of other people's as well. While I get the whole sensationalizing videos to get clicks I think his are often more based in reality than others(he is flying too close to the edge). There are two people in the last several years I have commented and would have bet would have wrecked a plane and he was one. The other was closer to home both did.
He needs to take a hard look at his flying before he hurts himself or someone else.
As for crash or incident I could care less what you call it. Personally I would avoid getting the FAA involved if I legally could.
Didn't he say he hit a hay bale? Yeah, that's a crash.
I’d say unintentionally hitting the ground when a wing isn’t flying makes it a crash also.
First reaction for a stall, more power........ hmmm.
In my limited fixed wing training I was taught that angle of attack was what caused a wing to stall.
I was taught to get the nose down to address a stall.
This appears to me to be at odds with the opinions of the pilot in the video.
Was I taught incorrectly?
What would the correct procedure be for recovery from a stall at low altitude?
When the cops show up it's a crash. It's only a matter of time before one of these rich young attractive internet fame seekers films their fatal crash with their hot wives.(yeah I"m a little jealous).
Like the Draco dude, lucky to be alive.
I watch Jonas’ channel, and often cringe at some of the stuff I see especially as a student pilot training in a bush plane.
He sold his Kitfox which is a good STOL plane and is flying his Capella which is arguably not a great bush plane due to the wing configuration. He also had to rig his landing gear to the extent I doubt anyone who watches his channel is surprised it collapsed.
Is he a good pilot? I would say he has good skills, but often uses poor judgment.
Possibly he was tired.
Which is usually when people hit the hay.
I don't follow this guy or the other guys from the flying cowboys or whatever you call them... However... I believe they are doing a good service for general aviation and in a small way stemming the tide of the decline in GA. They are attracting young folks to our hobby. That's not a bad thing. I remember when I was growing up, skiing was hot as a pistol, then it died a slow death, then the younger folks started snowboarding and skiing became a thing again. The folks selling the airplanes don't do it, in fact the airplane makers do a TERRIBLE job in sales and marketing their products other than Cirrus and Cub Crafters... so someone has to. I did watch most of this video and he was honest about the tailwind, etc. And in the end, some A&P will earn some income because of this incident. That's not a bad thing.
You left out the part where those of us that don't fly like an idiot are paying for his repairs because our insurance rates go up due to morons like him. I suppose that's not a bad thing either ????
Possibly he stalled too low to recover with any technique? Maybe if he had lowered the nose AND firewalled it for a late go around?
Without a video we can't really know, but some things I was wondering:
Did the tailwind mess up his visual cues? The higher groundspeed visually may have caused him to get too slow or flare too early. (I've heard of incidents related to higher groundspeed at high density altitudes causing pilots to stall)
Was his stall horn not blaring at a higher than normal altitude?
Was his approach speed too close to stall to begin with?
Maybe he caught a gust or shear.
Anyone have any useful takeaways?
Don't land with a tailwind?
Don't get complacent? (He lands on very short gravel bars in rivers so maybe the thousand foot field was too easy?)
Get a blue donut indicator? (Maui where are you?)
That’s a blast from the past, what happened to that dude? Didn’t sell enough I suppose.....
May or may not have been room, but lowering the nose would have made it scary looking out the windshield.
