I am married to an Iris lass who loves her Iris roots. St. Patty's day around her is close to New Years, July 4th, and Madigras rolled into one.

We have a 5 course traditional Irish dinner tonight and invited all the Irish people we know. Father in law is the only one that shows upz but that doesn't stop my wife! Decorations, streamers, even the dog gets a green sweater.

I get drunk on green beer and sing Danny Boy. :goofy:

Fun stuff!

Happy St Pattys day ,break out the fine Irish whiskey.

I like St. Patrick's day but the Traditional Irish meal?

I was in Ireland. I think it was day 3 I finally said F this, and found cab to take me to a Mac Donald's

HAH!
Anything but another traditional Irish Breakfast.
I got SOOO excited at one point on our trip because I saw "Sausage".
"Oh Miss... Just load my plate up with that"

So excited :drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

My wife's family came from Ireland, mine from Germany. Let's just say our kids like beer.

Irish sausage is good, blood pudding is gross! My aunt usually smuggles Irish sausage when she comes to visit! :nono::D

Eating the wrong traditional Irish meal - the 7 course dinner is much better, a potato and a six-pack. Or maybe just drop the potato if you're worried about carbs.

On St. Patricks day I usually rest from being Irish all the other days of the year. This year I'm traveling in Minneapolis for work. It's unusually warm and I understand the buses are free so I'll probably wander downtown and see the parade on Nicollet mall. Don't know what after that.

An Irish blessing for the day: May your friends be greater than the number of shamrocks and your blessings exceed both.

My favorite: May you be in Heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead!

Black pudding made correctly is yum !!!

Depending on where you are in Ireland, breakfast can be both black and white pudding, back bacon, fried potato bread and fried soda farls ( not to confused with soda bread) , pork sausage and in the north beef sausages

I have one every trip home.

Corned beef and cabbage - no idea why people think that's an irish traditional dish.

why did I misread that as fried soda farts?

Soda Farls : http://allrecipes.com/recipe/irish-soda-farls/

"Soda bread dough is flattened into a round circle, and divided into farls meaning 4 parts. It is then cooked on a dry griddle or pan. Traditionally this was the quickest way to make soda bread for unexpected guests who drop by for a bit of craic (good fun). It's best eaten fresh with butter and jam but is also delicious fried as part of an Ulster breakfast."

I've got two corned beef briskets going (I always want leftovers for ruebens later in the week) and a six of Smithwicks chilling down. Alas I'm bachin it tonight. Margy is over with the new grandbaby.

There's a reason Irishmen drink so goldarn much. When you see their food it makes perfect sense.
