Thanks for the nice thoughts, Adam. On this day I wanted to fly like an eagle; however, after getting Scottsdale MOM set for the Delta from Portland PWM to Phoenix -- and after polishing a couple rum/7-Up/wedge of lime(s) in the airport restaurant -- the timing was a negative factor. So I drove home, and out to Merrymeeting Airport(5.2sm from my house)[photos, below] and goofed-off in the clubhouse for the afternoon. We heard some screeching from the tree-line and went out to check on the noise. Surveying the goings-on around Merrymeeting Bay was a family appropriate for this day. Upper right is Mama; upper left is Papa; and there are two children just above their home. One wanted to hug 'em. We could only get just so close and the elders put up quite a vocal ruckus. Just beautiful.

Happy 4TH Of JULY !

Consider the benefits of getting in the mood by remembering black powder battles from the USA Revolution and the War of 1812. Fly around your neighborhoods even BEFORE the major shows explode, just above the bottle rockets and Roman candles from yard to yard scirmishes, and you'll see the rockets red glare below you, among the many Star Spangled Banners in those yards.

Independence Day celebrations and fireworks can be the Irony of Freedom. Compared to the real war battles it commemorates, The Fourth's pyrotechnics is all only a minor visual gesture generated mostly by youngsters that don't even know what our Revolutionary WAR was !

BUT, as you fly over the ever increasing flashes in the descending darkness as far as the eye can see in all quadrants and count yourself among the very few in your Iron Birds, THEN is when the experience becomes greater than that to be had once again from the ground.
