I found those for a friend just this week; we then looked into prices. Anywhere from simple & 100$, to wild and almost 1000$.

This is EXACTLY the same setup as a guy a few blocks from my boyfriend's house has.

Except the neighbor he has in Windsor, California (not Riverside) does this for Christmas though and uses his yard, windows, garages, and even robots. He puts up a big sign saying "tune in to 97.1" and people line up in cars to watch the two songs play all the way through, while they tune in through their car speakers.

I didn't realize other people did the same thing, and I never took pictures or filmed it. I would just go in my car, every Christmas, and wait my turn in the line of cars, and watch.

Whats next, lights for easter? lights for thanksgiving? What about lights for columbus day?

....

Chaser lights, LEDs, strobes, scripted controller, I love it! I want the software!!! I want the system!

Kimberly, where in Windsor is that Christmas light display? I'm in north Santa Rosa (Wikiup) and would love to see that.

Well, I've always wanted a beacon.....and runway lights for my driveway, maybe some taxi lights around the yard. And a rabbit into the carport, maybe some reils for the turn-in at the road.

So will the wife go along with your idea to act as a ramp marshal each time you pull in from work?

I just tip-toed into the LED strips with this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CQ87MI

The controller makes it a geek orgasm for a man cave.

A 25 foot strip is $100+

I dunno that you'd just put those outside but I imagine they're sealed well enough against the elements. I might put them in poly tubes or tubing.

I see that there are generic versions that are mix & match and are slightly cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/Changing-LED-...lesalers/dp/B0040FJ27S/ref=pd_sxp_grid_pt_0_0

I'm going to line each side of the vaulted ceiling in my living room with these in a small valance. I'll also put at least one in my dark basement hallway.

I might get the controller that has the music input so I can demo a disco for maybe a minute. http://www.amazon.com/Music-Control...=UTF8&coliid=IBNNPR4DHS2GD&colid=QHGX34ISIZUT

I have to do some research because I mainly want to be able to interface my home automation system.

If you live close enough to an airport, you don't need one.

As I kid, I used to lie in bed and watch the white-white... green... flashing on the window shade.

Friend of mine has a 500W lighted tower side-marker beacon in his backyard. We call it the "Neighborhood Disco Light".

Both consumer and professional level. Jut search for "led display controller" and there's lots of options. Wonder if this is what some of the Oshkosh aircraft were using at the night airshow this summer.

Another local pilot!

I'm not sure if they are doing it again this year, but it is usually all over the news, etc. I don't know the exact streets but it is off the Arata Lane exit from Hwy 101 - within about a mile or two from there. I've always been driven to the site by the BF and never navigated to it myself. It is worth seeing.

Update: I drove by and they are not doing it this year. There was a sign in Windsor in front of the guy's house with an apology that he had been in the hospital and not able to put up the lights this year. He asked people to view his YouTube video instead, which led to other YouTube videos of other people's houses, which led to the best one I've seen yet:
