All - Sounds like fun and we're going to do it in our Archer. Long range wx is meh but we'll see.

Thank you for expressing interest in our (EAA Chapter 36) inaugural Poker Run. We are less than two weeks away. (Primary date - Oct 16th / Rain date - Oct 30th). Please share with your friends, fellow pilots, organizations, renters, etc. Pilots and passengers may participate. EAA membership is NOT required to participate. Below is additional information about the event, and additional details will be available closer to it. Don't hesitate to reach out with additional questions by replying to me directly or our chapter email address: eaa36khgr@gmail.com.

Our route includes three airports with restaurants and plenty of time to enjoy a meal along the way. We have over $500 worth of prizes to award for winning hands and winning raffle tickets (likely to exceed $700 by the event). We look forward to having you participate in this exciting event.

Safe skies,

Ray Franze, II

EAA Chapter 36, Hagerstown Regional Airport, MD

Time:

8:00 am – Pilots may begin registering/purchasing poker hand sheets (you may arrive anytime between 8:00 and 1:00 to begin participating--allows time to draw raffle tickets for all participants).
4:00 pm – Poker Hand sheets are due back to the Registration Table

Poker Sheets:

$5 per sheet (“hand”) - no limit on the amount of hands you may purchase/play
Participants receive one raffle ticket for each sheet purchased
Ex: One poker sheet purchased = one raffle ticket
Five poker sheets purchased = five raffle tickets

Prizes:
Prizes will be awarded to the top three poker hands – poker sheets will be reviewed by several chapter members to confirm the winners; prizes will be mailed to the winners

All participants are eligible to win prizes that are raffled off
Raffle winners may be able to take their prize with them upon returning their poker sheets if the raffle draw already took place (a little bit after 1:00 pm)

Drawing Cards:

At each airport, pilots will draw a card for each number of hands they have to play. Each card will go back in the deck and get shuffled prior to drawing a card for any subsequent hands. Each card draw is for a designated sheet and must be marked accordingly before moving onto the next card draw for additional hands. Participants shall NOT pick and choose which hand a particular card will apply to.

Making a “poker hand”:

The route includes seven airports including HGR. Pilots much visit a minimum of five different airports to make a “hand.” Pilots may visit up to all seven airports. Any pilot who visits six or all seven airports, will get to use their best five cards for a given hand, to make their hand. Since cards are not given away, the remote possibility exists for two participants to draw the exact same cards; or for a participant to draw the same card for different hands. Ties will be broken based on the highest 6th or 7th card on the sheet.

Route:

Pilots may visit the following airports in any particular order. A clockwise or counter-clockwise flow is recommended to avoid busting any Prohibited or Restricted Airspace around Camp David (“P-40”).

* HGR – Hagerstown Regional Airport (Start/Finish), Hagerstown, MD
* MRB – Eastern WV Regional Airport, Martinsburg, WV
* FDK – Frederick Municipal Airport, Frederick, MD
DMW – Carroll County Regional Airport, Westminster, MD
THV – York Airport, York PA
W05 – Gettysburg Regional Airport, Gettysburg, PA
N68 – Franklin County Regional Airport, Chambersburg, PA

* - airport restaurant on the field

EAA Chapter 36 is postponing our inaugural Poker Run to next Saturday, 10/23. We previously advertised 10/30 as the rain date, but we can't tell yet if the weather then will be any better, but next Saturday looks doable ... so we'll slide the event date to the right incrementally.

Please help spread the word among your flying friends, renters, flying club members, etc. We will be broadcasting this on Social Media soon as well.

The forecasted weather throughout the region tomorrow includes a strong chance of rain showers, convective activity, a steady strong breeze with the potential for strong gusty winds. Recognizing the amount of flying involved among our participants to get to HGR, navigate the evolving weather throughout the region and still make it home safely, we feel the right call is to postpone the event for the time being.

We want the event to be fun and enjoyable, but lack war stories of surviving microbursts and other exciting weather phenomena this cold front may bring.

I apologize in advance for any redundancy as I'm going to send this message from my email address as well as our chapter's email address in case one goes to your Spam folder.

Safe skies,
