Question for the group, where is the guidance for examiners to determine which maneuvers will be on a checkride when developing the plan of action?

I seem to remember the PTS having it spelled out in the document

The table of required and optional stuff is in the ACS Appendix.

Generally unless it's an added rating (in which case consult the additional rating task table), all of them are required except as described in any notes which are spread throughout the document. For example for the private, the examiner must choose at least one of three ground reference maneuvers, as described in the ground reference maneuvers task. So you kinda have to look through the whole thing.

Thanks. Yeah I saw appendix 5 as posted earlier... The commercial PTS I remember had a table or something like that, which was less vague.

ACS is a very scatterbrained document but it’s “all there”, which ... honestly is nice. But you do have to hop all over the thing.

It’s, as one YouTube electronics guy likes to say, “A trap for young players...” to only read parts of it. :)

You probably want to read the appendices first, and then the rest of it.

You’ll still have to hop around, but at least you’ll know where to hop.

that’s for an additional rating, not initial

Ahhh.. My mistake. Yah... For an initial, you fall back to "The evaluator must assess the applicant on all skill elements for each Task included in each Area of Operation of the ACS, unless otherwise noted."

In other words, all of them... Except where noted in the Task.
