This is funny. Somewhere I got on American Flyers Addison's mailing list. That's fine. No big deal there.

But zooming in and looking closer at one of the photos in the Marketing e-mail made me laugh.

I'm captioning it:

"I'm squeezing the big strong arm of my young man here while dad busts his butt to load our crap in the airplane."

I'm also pretty sure that's a Skylane tail. If they put all four of them on board and they all had a bag that big, we'll visit them at the funeral. ;)

Ahh the romance of flying...

OK, that's funny right there. Except I think she's asking him "Does this thing get up to a 'mile high?'"

I love modern advertising. If it is aimed at pilots they will make the same observations you have, if at novices it merely promises things that can't happen. But I bet the ad agency got paid anyway. Winning!!!

:confused::confused::confused::confused: Those 4 and that bag in a 182? I wouldn't bother to do a weight and balance. We're about 150 under gross with 4 hrs of fuel and we're about 2/3rds way back in the envelope. I have an hour of reserve fuel over the longest leg with a woman not willing to pee in a bucket. The likelihood of 2 on a flight and it actually happening in the physical confines of a 182 is "0". I'm not seeing a problem here.

Pic wasn't coming through for me - assuming this is what you were talking about?

That's the one I was, he may have taken it down temporarily to do that crop because it was a big ad page with that image.

So you would make the same incorrect observation and expect me to? I suggest you do a calculation, I come up with 660 lbs in people, 50 in the bag and 320 in fuel. That's under 1000lbs. Most every 182 I've flown has had at least 1100. I would further wager that the weights I used to calculate that are heavy. Since they would be evenly distributed errors in weight though it would effect where CG was.

1 of 1000??!?!?

Nate, man, you need to clean out your inbox!

If the ad got you to notice so much that you had to share on an Internet message board, it definately wasn't a fail!

LOL, cool, is that all tagged into the pics?

BTW, Trip as photographed is completely plausible. If the old man is up front CG is just fwd of middle with either girl across, 2/3rds aft if he's in the back seat.

Except thats a 172 not a 182

Good catch, 172 it doesn't work unless it's just a quick trip up state. With 2 hours or so fuel I can take it but might need both dudes up front, sucks for whoever would have got back seat. I've only put loads that look like that in a 160 hp plane a few times so I'd have to work real numbers.

Catching up from earlier. I clearly said "if they have 4 bags", Henning.

You ever seen women travel? ;) That bag is just for the afternoon.

Yes, I zoomed in on the old guy about to have a MI before I posted.

And my inbox always looks like that. I try to keep it under 10,000. Ha.

For the love of Odin someone put the nosewheel pant back on that 182. Or take the wheel pants on the mains off.

Tell ya what, when you buy me a new nose pant I'll put it on my plane:wink2:

Actually once I'm out of the common hangar I might finaly fix mine and reinstall.

I have to look at the windshield or cowling to tell the difference.

When you get bored and stare at the hawk in bits sitting next to the skylane in bits you see what the differences are, and even more so that Cessna only ever made one single engine plane. They just left the ones with bigger numbers hooked up to the inflator a little longer:rofl:

I think if you carefully re-read the OP he made one condition that they ALL had a bag that big. Add 150lbs. to your numbers and recalculate.....looks to me like 50 over and CG aft, maybe not out, but well aft. Please explain how given those conditions my observation was incorrect.

Still works in my 182...

Yeah, but the bags would be stacked to the window (probably scratching it, ask me how I know... ha... no it wasn't me, but there's a nice gash in our rear window from something stacked that high...) or there'd be one of them sitting on someone's lap.

And if Cessna just hooked up that air hose on the bigger ones, that means they stopped at the 210 because they blew a couple of holes in the bottom, right? :)

Sort of, the 208 being biggest sort of shoots the theory but you still get the idea.

Since they are all off to Gaston's, they are all in their own planes. That's what they are really selling.

Still, standing there getting fawned over while grandpa schleps the bags...

Well, the guy has his priorities sorted out I guess!

They pack what I tell them to pack.

it might work for you, but this is the reality for the rest of us:

:lol::lol::lol:

Seriously, if there is going to be a weight restriction I let them know in advance how much weight they can pack. I have always owned pretty capable planes and only traveled with one woman and a dog and maybe a cat at a time, it never really came up. Most all two couple trips for a beach weekend-week in the SoFla, Keys or Bahamas only really needs to pack about 22 lbs. Bathing suits and tropical wear is just not that heavy. Most girls I know would rather just pack plastic and go shopping when we get there anyway.:rofl::rofl: Then you ship it all home before you leave.

Bingo. We do the same. Even on airlines we pack light. My wife and I are on a campaign to explore France. We never pack more than a moderate sized carry-on pack with 3-4 days clothes since we always rent houses or apartments with laundry facilities. My wife has never been one for flash,(Obviously, given her taste in men) so she is quite happy to avoid the luggage claim scrum, and we always arrive with everything we left with.

I fly a 150. My flight bag holds a headset (yes it is that tiny). Most I've ever brought is a backpack.
