Got to meet a hero of mine

Soaring Club of Houston had a very special guest this past weekend. He gave a great talk about his esteemed career, the Apollo missions and of course Apollo 13. Gene Kranz was super nice and I couldn't wipe the smile off my face.

I had a project recently, and we started calling the procedural checklist we developed the 'Gene Kranz' checklist.

I've met him and Jim Lovell and heard their talks. Absolutely riveting, and both very charming individuals. I think Lovell still flies his own Baron, IIRC.

He's definitely an inspirational speaker. My father was the retiring president of the club so it was cool seeing him hand Gene a 15year old bottle of his favorite single malt Plus, he donated his fee to habitat for humanity. All round great fella.
