Took some tailwheel training in the Biloxi/Gulfport area today, the instructor said this wasn't the most docile trainer he owned but that it would be okay...what do you think?

40 to 60 GPH seemed a little excessive though.

:)

Isn't the T6 a hoot to fly! My first hour of flight in my logbook 17 years ago was a intro flight in a T6. Wife gave it to me on our first anniversary.

Then at OSH this year I got to ride with Aeroshell team for morning practice. I damn near bought myself a taildragger to build time so I could purchase one! Reality struck and I remembered I had a family, so the saratoga is the family truckster!

I'm that family man that watches older guys and single younger guys flying hot rods while I sit in my station wagon....wouldn't trade it for the world!

Cool pic

Next thing you know you'll be wearing a flight suit! :)

seems like a lot of fuel....the one I fly only burns 35gph

I was told that's what this one burns too in "economy" cruise.

Doing laps around the pattern though....it was sucking 60 on take-offs.

Ya. I thot about that after i posted. I run in super economy because I'm broke:D

If you can land a T6 you'd probably be OK in most other taildraggers although the visibility is much better from the front seat of a Six than what you get in most biplanes. I've heard more than one Mustang pilot say the Six is harder to land.

In the finest POA tradition: you suck!

I Love tail wheel. It feels right.

Glad to hear you're pursuing it.

So jealous!

And I'll echo the P51 comment. Gentleman I talked to that flies airshows in a P51 said they had the training progression all wrong back in WWII. They should have started in the Mustangs, went to the T6 and then finished up in the Stearman. He said the wide gear just kind of augers in and has a nice stabilizing effect when you get it planted. I think he was only half serious ;)

Owned my SNJ for 7 years when I could afford to put gas in it. Even at around $1.25 a gallon it was normal to have a $1000.00 a month gas bill in the summer. I got some dual in a Mustang after I had around 400hrs in the 6. It was no problem to land. He did make me do a bunch of go around's on short final. The whole secret to that was when the right rudder pedal hit the floor don't add any more throttle. Still get to fly my friend's N3N so get my radial fix quite often. All great airplanes and don't ever pass up the chance to fly one. Don

T-6 from the back seat - on pavement probably gives one an honest assessment of their skills. Every taildragger is easier on grass…it's a lot less treacherous if a little sideways.

I have flown the 6 from the backseat quite a bit. It isn't that bad at all. Just like anything else once you get the sight picture figured out it's a piece of cake. Don

I've found that it is considerably easier to taxi from the back.

One of the finest ways to turn old fossil juice into noise. Good for you!
