Ok - this sucks.

I got a virus that sent out a whole bunch of emails (after disabling my virus scanner....ugh). If anyone gets an email from me with the subject "Hot Latina" or something like that - I did NOT send it, and it probably has the virus within.

And no - I was not looking at porn when I got it....

ugh.
 
I just did a full scan, takes 6hrs to do my 200,000 files. Everyone is tellling me about a new sleeper worm virus that is going to wipe out computers on Feb 3.
I never know whether to take these warnings seriously or not.

That stinks. My other laptop that I use for for some special projects got hooked up to the Internet a few months ago. Since it never was intended for use on the Internet it had no protection. I was using it there anyway, virus wiped out the hard drive. Thank fully nothing ireplaceable there. Just files for doing equipment control.
 
Poor Nick! What a pain in the butt. Hope you can eradicate the pest without wiping your machine.

OK - so I got into the cleaning mood, so I reformatted and started over on not only my infected desktop, but also my laptop and my other desktop as well.

Nice and fast! I also found a way to completely disable Internet Exploder in Windows XP, so for the time being, I'm using FireFox as my default (until I remember why I was so adamant about not using it in the first place...)

So far, I'm pretty happy. On my desktop (the one that was infected), I only partitioned 50 gig of my 80 gig drive for Windows XP...who wants to guess what the other 30 gig is going to be for???
