I've seen a few videos shot with this camera and was wanting one for myself. They seem to have a variety of accessories with it and I was wanting to get some opinions on flying with it. I thought that the best package for aviation would be the "motorsports" one, but let's hear from people who have some or all of the equipment already. I think it would be epic to shoot a personal video flying the approach into Oshkosh, Sun 'n Fun, Gaston's or ANYWHERE using this. :D

The cameras are the same for the most part , but the different "packages" are the different types of mounts.

I have an older 720p version and use the suction cup mount in the planes. I do not mount it to the exterior , but suck it fast to the windshield.

There are more RAM mount options than what "gopro" offers.

Sometimes the fish eye lens takes away from some of the shots, and other times it is better for the wide angle it produces.

As for an all in one , it is probably the best deal you can get without spending a fortune.

I also use mine on my motorcycle and or mount it to my helmet , and sometimes I use it in my vehicle to catch the idiotic things people do on the roadways. Sometimes reviewing stupidity is great face book and youtube materials.

The nice thing with the ram mounts is that the basic platform will work for a variety of things. I can use the same glareshield mount for my ipad, garmin , handycam and go pro. All I am changing is the accessory mount. The same goes for my suction cup mount also.

My take on the whole thing is why invite scrutiny of your flight on the Internet.

I bought the Motorsports edition with the intent of recording all my flight lessons. Unfortunately, the angles I could get while using the suction cup from within the cabin weren't very good, so now I use it attached to my headset.

You really need to think what angle you want to record and then base your setup on that. My headset mounted getup is great for me to go back and watch because it takes me about as close to the moment as I can get, complete with almost the same pointof view, but it would probably make other people sick.

The biggest issue I see, is that if you don't own your own plane, or don't want to modify your aircraft in someway, getting great interior shots is doable, but difficult.

I'm not impressed with the GoPro cameras. I know there are filers available that will stop the annoying prop and warble effects inherent in CMOS that they aren't using. I can't stomach watching those effects, they physically disturb me.

Woot had the cameras for a discount a earlier this year. I bought two and then ordered the 3D kit (a double wide housing and a jumper cable to sync the cameras together).

Just get an NFlightcam plus and stop playing:lol:

Only drawback is you need to use an iPhone or iPad as a viewfinder (via Bluetooth). Without it, it's a pita to get the video lined up straight after you mount the camera.

Very happy with the HD video and natural prop blur. Sometimes it looks like there's no prop at all. Also having an audio input is a great plus!

You got a vid using that posted? I'm in the market but don't want a GoPro. I'd really like a multi cam recording system with a 4+ cam capability.

I recorded my solo a couple weeks ago with the NFlightcam Plus, it comes with an "aviator lens" which gets rid of the prop blur really well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pa83Y21r86M

I record most of my lessons for myself and watch them later, mostly for the audio so that I can rehear all the communications and practice that stuff. Also, sometimes I will completely miss stuff my instructor is telling me mid-flight because I'm concentrating on 6 different things -- watching the lesson again helps me catch anything I missed.

Thanks, yeah, it still has that bloody warble to it that I can't stand, it's painful to me.

Btw, you're the only person I know that taxis faster than I do.:D

Yeah, someone else already posted one, they take care of the prop but not the warble.

Well to the camera's credit, I'm using a ghetto-rigged suction mount that was originally for my phone -- not one of the mounts that they officially sell with the camera. I'm guessing theirs don't warble as much as mine...:D

Yeah I notice it a little more on the lower 720p setting as opposed to the 1080p. 720 has a wider field of view though. I think 170*. I used 1080p more, so I got a second battery.

Overall, it's not that bad.

Just wanted to add. My first cam was having audio and GPS issues so I had to RMA it. Customer support was excellent! They sent me a new one with all cables and accessories and I've been a happy camper ever since. That was about 4 or 5 months ago.

One thing I'll deduct points for is that miserable 4gb SD card! What a joke. At the price they charge for the camera (got mine before the $100 price drop), it's really a slap in the face! You'll need at least a decent 16gb card.
