Google is developing a flying car

Lol, on batteries? That store better be at the end of the block and you best not be picking up more than a pack of smokes. Are any of these people aware of the power requirements of this type of program? Has no one learned anything from the Moeller fiasco, or is this another of his? The one promising thing I've seen is the Thorium laser powered car plans, but they are still a ways off on getting the micro turbines and boiler worked out. When that happens, then maybe we can have a practical flying car. Until then, energy density is what will always keep the projects on the ground.

maybe they are practicing landings on the barge :wink2:

They may not have hired engineers, but the artist conception looks very similar to popular mechanics, that has been suggesting mainstream flying cars is just around the corner for about 40 years?

As much as the Google browser crashes, I'd be skeptical of Google going into aircraft design and manufacture.

According to my connections within Google, I'm told the aircraft itself will be free and ad supported. Here are the details from a Google insider:

Google Insider said:
Yes, it's true that Google Airplane will be free! Here's how we plan to make that possible.

First of all, there will be a heads-up display to show you in-flight ads that are chosen for their relevancy to you, as a pilot.

Secondly, information about all of your flights, destinations, and pax will be uploaded in real-time and shared with Google's "partners," who may contact you on guard frequency (during the flight) or on your cell phone (while on the ground) to provide you with useful information about their products and services.

In addition, your airplane will also be equipped with a mobile hotspot and an earth-facing camera, which may be used to enhance Google's data mining and privacy invasion geo-location and mapping services. From time to time, Google may temporarily take control of your aircraft as needed to gather more information about something on the ground that we find interesting and potentially profitable help you avoid inflight hazards.

To further enhance Google's revenues your flying experience, Google may take control of your aircraft on the ground to seamlessly direct you to FBOs that were the highest bidders in Google's new "AirWords" service our users have ranked most highly. This "FBO Redirection" service is entirely free to you as a Google Airplane user.

Of course, as PIC, you will always be able to override FBO redirection. Just log into you Google account, verify your identity by entering a PIN number that we will text to your cell phone, answer a brief survey about why you don't like Google's recommended FBO, and confirm your decision three times on three separate screens. Please note that for security reasons, you will only be able to override FBO Redirection from your home computer.

How many airplane owners, given the space to do so, taxi their privately owned aircraft to Wal Mart and go shopping? One little door ding and the aircraft is grounded.

These flying cars are good for two things; getting money from investors and maybe advancing a little technology.

There FIFY.........:D

Looks like they are scaling up the Parrot AR Drone. Fuselage to be made of styrofoam with seating of netted monofilament. Totally doable :D
