Good evening all

New member of the site. Loving all aspects of it so far. Lots of good information. I am currently working on my PPL, and have about 3.5 hours. My instructor wants me to start watching videos of landings so I can see what the proper approach angle looks like and when to do certain things. I have searched YouTube, but so far I haven't found any that can serve as good training supplements. Any suggestions?

The youtube training videos thread in flight following may be helpful. I'd recommend UND areocast. As good as training videos on the internet can get.

I'm not a fan of this idea.... To easy to introduce some bad habits from bad you tube videos.

Try this instead: http://www.kingschools.com/aviation-courses/takeoffs-and-landings-made-easy

Or better yet, tell the instructor to not be so lazy and be better about teaching you what you should know about good landings. Quite a few pilots learned how to operate an aircraft safely before YouTube and video cameras.

In 1975 if you had said youtube I would have thought you meant we're going to San Marcos and we'll need some beer and inner tubes.

We make landings such a discussion when in reality these small GA planes practically land themselves if you let them and don't over control.

My best landings are when I remind myself to relax and have fun. Just fly the airplane and be casual about it. They are very forgiving.

Depends on what your problem is, but at 3.5 hours you probably don't know yet. Mine was typically leveling off too high. Its a lot to do with where you look and peripheral vision. I had to get a lot closer to the runway than I expected BEFORE leveling off. Check out this one:

discussion of the perspective shift or width expansion as you approach the ground.

and this one, which breaks down where to look and when to shift your focus out towards the end vs aiming point:

good luck, you just need practice.

Welcome to POA!

Not sure if they had one for landing, but the AOPA site has excellent info and videos. I'm a member but I think you can use them if you're not.
