I have a 2006 Sky Ranger[fabric covered] a Yaesu 550 transceiver.I would like to know the best location for an antenna,type of antenna,and do i need a 20x30 inch ground [aluminum] plane-thanks.

With handhelds, I've had good luck with putting the rubber duckie on a suction-cup mount on a window.

Didn't you receive a "rubber duck" antenna with the Yaesu?

Just don't leave a suction cup mount on the window in really hot weather. It can damage the window.
