From the aircraft side or the pilot side? Around here, the glider clubs own their own planes. And members do the towing for glider time. Can't really answer your question, but I would think that if you aren't towing for a commercial operation, it would be difficult to make any money at it.

Real tough Tom. I've operated a glider operation & there was very little profit in towing. That said, the airport I operated off of had several glider clubs that were non-profit. We had to charge more than they did to stay in business. Most glider pilots would rather wait several hours for a tow rather than spend a little more $ to have us tow them.

I like glider pilots but they tend to be a bunch of tight wads.
