I dont get it. He didnt perform, he kept the 2million advance. why is he appealing this decision. why did it go to court to begin with? And can I sue him for wasting my tax dollars?

sigh.

LAS VEGAS - A federal jury decided Wednesday that
Rod Stewart should pay a Las Vegas casino $2 million plus interest for a canceled show in December 2000.

The seven-member jury found unanimously that Stewart should not have kept an advance he was paid for the show at the Rio Hotel Casino.

The 60-year-old Stewart, who was not in U.S. District Court when the verdict was reached, had said he was unable to perform because of throat surgery several months earlier.

One of his lawyers, Kerry Garvis Wright, said the rock star will appeal.

Steve Morris, a lawyer for the Rio Hotel Casino and its parent company, Harrah's Entertainment, said he was "delighted and relieved" by the verdict.

Contracts need not be tied to actual performance. Heck, maybe Harrah's was just so pleased to have him scheduled that they signed away the money. Now they want it back. Who knows.

No work. No pay. Get an advance. No work. Give it back. Why did this have to go to trial? :dunno:

Depends on what the contract said. Sometimes there are signing bonuses.... and very frequently in entertainment deals the advance may cover expenses. If so, the contract may say that the advance is non-refundable depending on circumstances.

Some of those contracts are the size of a phone book.
