So next Saturday the Hamilton clan flies into San Diego for the kids vacation. Any weather phenomenon I should be aware of? Winds, fog (seems plenty far away from coast for this), locusts.....etc

Scroll down the page then click on the extended forecast tab.

You might think about Montgomery Field as well, it's closer to the beaches and hotels.

Sorry should have been more clear as it's a week and half away. Friday the 18th we are going to leave in the afternoon and fly to Page, AZ and stay the night. The next morning we are going to leave early and fly the 2 hour trip including quick jaunt across Grand Canyon. I anticipate a 9:30 -10:00 arrival.

I'm on call and lose track of the days sometimes.

I will look little closer to Montgomery.

My first flight ever was at KSEE.

Should be far enough inland to not be bothered by fog. Other than that its SoCal. Weather is nice. Look out for Santa Ana (sp?) winds.

KSEE is about the last local airfield to get fogged in or effected by the Marine Layer so shouldn't be any issues.

KMYF is closer to downtown SAN but will fog-in earlier than KSEE. We don't see regular fog or bad overcast until June (called the June Gloom).

Have a great time!

Thanks, the June gloom comment helpful. Pics should follow for sure!

Hello,

I'm flying out of MYF for my lessons and live half-way between MYF and SEE. It's been beautiful out here this past week.

SEE is less-affected by the marine layer but will still get it during June gloom and May gray. It will generally burn off much quicker, however, than MYF.

While we can still get off-season marine layers, right now isn't the time for them and mornings have been wonderful. Hopefully, it'll remain that way for your trip.

I haven't flown into SEE yet, amazingly enough, so I have nothing to add other than to make sure to avoid Rattlesnake Mountain on final :)

I hope you have a great trip and enjoy the city!

Are you going IFR or VFR?

If IFR, nothing much to be concerned with other than you may have a marine layer to get through and the MDA is about '1200 AGL (if it is below mins, you can almost always get into MYF).

If you are going VFR, aside from the potential marine layer, the only other thing to be concerned with is mountain obscuration as you approach SEE from the west.

As I recall KSEE has some pretty high terrain all around it. Without looking at an ODP I'd guess it'd be pretty nerve racking departing KSEE on an IFR flight plan. I might even take ASE over it.

Not a problem as I'm VFR only at this point. Working on it but nothing soon. Weather finally nice here in the mountains so hopefully can log some time this weekend.

I did my IR training and check ride out of SEE. It isn't that bad. ODP is basically a climbing right 270.
