Just wanted to share some gifts my airplane gave me today. She took me to Mt. St. Helens, about 40 nm north of here, and allowed me to see what I never could have seen from any other vantage point.
On the left side of the photo below you can see the acres of fallen timber that have been floating on Spirit Lake ever since the eruption of May 18, 1980.
The mountain is rebuilding itself at an accelerated pace since a minor eruption, still continuing, began in October 2004. The dome inside the crater is rising as fast as six feet per day.
