Looking for other users with similar setups to mine if your setup works differently than mine for ILS/LOC approaches and missed approaches using the above equipment. I checked with my avionics shop but they can't seem to confirm if my system is working as expected/designed and I also tried Garmin Support but they just read me what I posted from their manuals below.

My setup: 750Xi, 650xi, GI275 AI & HSI, GFC 500

1. The Garmin 275 Pilot Guide states - When flying an ILS/LOC and the correct frequency is tuned but GPS is selected as the guidance source, the HSI CDI Button flashes to prompt the crew to switch the guidance source. The GTN XI Series pilot guide states - the GTN automatically switches the external CDI output from GPS to VLOC as you intercept the final approach course 1.2nm left or right anywhere from 2-15nm from the FAF. I have heard from others the Garmin 3X automatically switches the source from GPS to VLOC.

My Question - My CDI button flashed as described on maybe three or four practice ILS approaches the rest of the time I have manually switched the CDI source to VLOC after waiting a few seconds to see if the CDI would blink to alert me. It's a small thing and I'm switching it manually anyway but I believe the equipment should work as designed. In the GI275 setup pages LOC CDI Prompting is "Enabled". Has anyone else experienced this and how did you resolve it?

2. Second Question - When I fly the ILS to Decision Altitude (DA) and press the Go Around button as I go missed I must manually press and cycle through the CDI menu to go from VLOC back GPS1. My question is when you go missed on an ILS/LOC and press the GA button does your GI 275 HSI CDI Source automatically switch from VLOC to GPS1?

Thank you.

Less kit that you have, but I must press the CDI button to change from GPS to VLOC. I believe that's because the -275 is an EFIS piece of hardware, and it must command the switch, even though the manuals suggest that in general the 750/650 will do so automatically. That was true for another aircraft with a 750 attached to a KX-55, but not for a current aircraft with a 650 attached to a -275.

However, the -275 does shadow in grey the LOC even while still in GPS mode is active which is nice. Obviously goes to green needles when switched with CDI button.

Have never heard of it autoswitching on the missed, but maybe there's a config for that.

Hmm I wonder how that works having both a 650 and 750. I have a 650 and there is a setting for auto switching and mine is enabled and it works for the most part. You can turn the larger knob to go to the screen with the CDI button to switch it. Maybe you have a different setting for the 750 vs the 650?

Mine won't auto switch, and pretty sure one can't force a switch from the GTN, only can come from the EFIS. I believe that's the setup that's technically required for an EFIS, but not sure. Again, this is a single GTN650 driving a single GI-275 which is configured and locked as an HSI.

Update: had my 275’s & GTN software updated to the latest version. The HSI CDI didn’t blink to remind the source change approaching the Localizer from either side.

Also Pressed the Go Around switch at DH to go missed and the 275 HSI did not switch from LOC1 to GPS1 had to be done manually. My buddies 182 with same setup did switch from LOC1 to GPS1 when going missed and pressing the GA button.
