I’m going to add a GI275 for EIS and put it in place of a GI-106B CDI. My av tech thinks it can be switchable between EIS and CDI. If so, possibly HSI but would require a GMU (magnetometer) if so. I will ask him next time I see him.Can I do that? What EXACTLY do I order to do it?
Gonna pair with a 650, 330ES and a Garmin audio panel of some sort.
Already have the 650 and 330ES transponder.
If not legal, how about EIS/CDI combo?
The a/c is a 182A.
It can not be switchable between EIS and and HSI. EIS is a dedicated display.I’m going to add a GI275 for EIS and put it in place of a GI-106B CDI. That would not qualify it to be primary, though, and that's an expensive unit to have it just be a dumb CHT/EGT monitor.Pretty sure the MFD (CDI) version will also work as an EIS. It's the exact same hardware, they just include the GEA 24 interface box so you can connect all of the sensors. You can use it as a CDI, then just turn the knob to the EIS page(s). It also has a pseudo HSI page. Looks just like and HSI but heading is derived from GPS track since there is no magnetometer connection.
Right, but what I'm saying is that even if you can do HSI+EIS in one instrument, that installation will not allow you to replace the factory gauges, plus you would have to constantly be flipping back and forth if you want to see the EIS. So, in a way, a JPI 700 would be better than the GI275 in this particular case. That's the point I was trying to make - it's not a 'dumb' EGT/CHT. It's a CDI, moving map, traffic, terrain and weather display AND a very capable engine monitor. Equal to anything EI or JPI makes.
That is what my avionics tech told me recently. I am adding a Garmin EIS displayed on a GI275. When asked if I ran two 275 units, would I be able to switch one to other MFD functions such as traffic and the response was no.Looking at the installation manual, it does not appear that a single instrument functioning as both EIS and MFD is allowable.
If you have one as your EIS and one as your HSI, I believe the "HSI Map" should allow you to display traffic on the HSI.That is what my avionics tech told me recently. I have a G500Txi 1060 with GI275 as B/U. I am considering two 275’s solely to display as EIS. I want the second unit so I could split the data between displays for decluttering. I also considered a 7” Txi for EIS data but I would have to cut a new right side panel; the 275’s will fit in existing cut outs. I was hoping that the second ‘non primary’ 275 could alternatively display info such as Wx/Traffic when desired. That doesn’t appear as an option. It would be nice if I could split EIS data between the G500 and the 275 but that is not currently an option either. I suppose I could just display the EIS data on the G500 but I hate to give up the real estate. If you have one as your EIS and one as your HSI, I believe the "HSI Map" should allow you to display traffic on the HSI.
If you mean two EIS on a twin, then correct, the answer is no traffic. On a single, you can't do two 275s that are both full EIS, but you can do one as the primary EIS and one as the MFD with a supplementary EIS page available.
What combination of AI, HSI, MFD, and EIS are you wanting for your two 275s?
The 182A is on the AML for the GI 275 STC SA02658SE.Can I do that? What EXACTLY do I order to do it?

So, you mean you'll *add* two 275s in addition to keeping the one you have now as your backup AI? And this is in a single-engine plane, right?I have a G500Txi 1060 with GI275 as B/U. I am considering two 275’s solely to display as EIS. want the second unit so I could split the data between displays for decluttering.
I don't think that's correct. In a single, you can only have one "EIS Display" (or two in a twin, one per engine) per section 2.1.3 of the install manual. An EIS display is *only* EIS, and can be switched between five pages.I also considered a 7” Txi for EIS data but I would have to cut a new right side panel; the 275’s will fit in existing cut outs. I was hoping that the second ‘non primary’ 275 could alternatively display info such as Wx/Traffic when desired. That doesn’t appear as an option.

I don't think you give up any actual functionality though, just about 1.75" on the side of the display. The MFD side is the same size either way, but instead of 60/40 PFD/MFD you get 20/40/40 EIS/PFD/MFD (or 40/40/20 if you put the EIS on the right).I suppose I could just display the EIS data on the G500 but I hate to give up the real estate.
So you would end up with only two 275s in the end?Yes, I would keep the B/U 275 (have to anyway because of the STC for the G500Txi) and add a 275 for EIS.
I am aware that the BU 275 is a no go. My question is if a pair of 275's could display different data from the same engine to declutter the display...so it would be easier to read than all crammed on one 275. While I have your attention, I want your opinion as to the viability of having the EIS on the G500...if you were to upgrade to a Garmin EIS. Do you think my concern about using up too much real estate is unfounded? So you would end up with only two 275s in the end?
There's definitely no way to have any EIS displayed on the backup AI 275.
Why wouldn't you install the GEA 110 and have your EIS on your primary TXi display? Your full time display which shows all of your POH instruments would be on the right side of the display, while having the detailed EIS page available on the MFD.I have a G500Txi 1060 with GI275 as B/U. Yes. You would install one EIS 275 and one MFD 275 in addition to the backup AI you have now. The EIS one *must* display only the Main EIS, Aux EIS, CHT/EGT, Fuel, and Summary pages in the graphics I previously posted. The MFD one can display those and any of the dozen non-EIS pages as well.I am aware that the BU 275 is a no go. My question is if a pair of 275's could display different data from the same engine to declutter the display...so it would be easier to read than all crammed on one 275.
I'm planning to do EIS on the PFD myself, with only a single 275 for backup. However, I am planning on a second 7" display on the right side - My plan is to have that one display the Engine page most of the time if I'm flying by myself, but if I'm flying with another pilot I'd let them put whatever they want up on that display. While I have your attention, I want your opinion as to the viability of having the EIS on the G500...if you were to upgrade to a Garmin EIS. What else is in your panel? Can you post a pic?I like having all CHT/EGT channels constantly displayed but, if I chose the GEA-110 option paired with the G500Txi, I lose my map/chart on the left side when displaying that secondary data. If I go with the GEA-24/GI-275, I can have the bar graph with CHT/EGT displayed full time but crammed in to a small space.
It sounds like you tend to think a lot like me. So, I recommend a 750 AND a 7" G500TXi display.Unfortunately, I can’t have the primary EIS instruments on the G500 and ancillary CHT/EGT/TIT on a GI-275. A 7” G500 would allow that but I would have to cut a new right side panel and a few more dineros. First world problems, definitely.
The GI 275 is also compatible with the GEA 110. As the data is on a RS-485 interface, I don't see why the same data can't be piped to a GI 275 AND a TXi display for that reason. I'm going to look into this a bit.@Jon Wilder Thank you….those two layouts help. My panel is a backup GI275, G500Txi 1060, GTN750xi, and a GNS430. Also have a JPI730. I like the idea of a 7" G500 but I am reluctant to replace the right panel but....I will have my avionics tech quote replacing the panel. CHEW GUYS are going to cost me a fortune!Yes. Personally, I have a GTN750 which is effectively another MFD, so a map can be displayed there (and is, most of the time). If you have one of the smaller GPS units and want to use the MFD for the map, I see the dilemma.

This is also why I was "that guy" when it came to all of the G3000 stuff. I'd almost always have a split PFD (PFD+MFD) plus a split MFD (MFD2+MFD3) and sometimes ask the FO if I could use half their PFD for a fourth MFD.That was usually when I was trying to figure out a weather situation and had traffic too or something like that. It was nice to pull up NEXRAD and on-board radar right next to each other to get a fuller picture of the weather, but I definitely liked having traffic available at a glance, and it is VERY nice to have your approach plate right there on the same screen as the PFD.
I suppose though, I will be fine with all of the display capability I currently have in addition to the 650xi. I will be adding a FS510; I had one in my last plane and loved it. Although the ipad appears to block the G500, it is a mini and comes nowhere near obstructing the view; I slid my seat back for the photo.Wow... That's quite a nice panel already! It looks like the whole right side is all engine/systems stuff already. I'd definitely put the 7" G500 in there. Although, you do have room for another 10"... G500 is two pages all the time, split 50/50. G500TXi and G3X can be portioned to show EIS strip, then the remainder can be PFD and MFD or just PFD.I don't think you give up any actual functionality though, just about 1.75" on the side of the display. The MFD side is the same size either way, but instead of 60/40 PFD/MFD you get 20/40/40 EIS/PFD/MFD (or 40/40/20 if you put the EIS on the right).
Right. The panel in question here is a G500 TXi:G500 is two pages all the time, split 50/50. G500TXi and G3X can be portioned to show EIS strip, then the remainder can be PFD and MFD or just PFD.
