I thought I would start a thread with some of my favorite airports and sights in my home state in hopes that others would do the same for their states. By doing so, I think we could compile a nice database of places to visit and see when we are making cross country flights.

KSSI - St. Simons Island
This airport is an easy in/out non-control towered airport with fuel available. It is a great place to experience the Georgia coastal area.

09J - Jekyll Island
This airport is also an easy in/out non-control towered airport, but does NOT have fuel. They have 'Red Bug' electric cars that you can rent at the airport for a fun way to tour the island. This island has a very unique pre-WW2 history because of the Jekyll Island Club and cottages built by some of the wealthiest people in America during that period of time.

KPIM - Pine Mountain
Callaway Gardens is located next to this airport. Also in the area is Warm Springs, the location for Roosevelt's 'Little White House'.

LOCAL AIRPORT PICKUP
Transportation is available for overnight guests arriving at the Harris County Airport. The rate is $20 one-way/$40 round-trip and covers up to 4 people. A minimum of 48 hours advance notice is required. Call 706.663.2281 for reservations.

you have got to include Peach State Aerodrome in the Georgia list...

GA2 - Peach State - great little grass strip with Barnstormers Grill and the Candler Field Museum. The grill is one of the best I have ever been to on an airstrip and actually a lot of people from the area drive to it for dinner.

and for the aerial sights, if you are in the Atlanta area you owe it to yourself as a pilot to do a Bravo transition over KATL (Hartsfield). If you request from the north (literally due north of the airport) of Atlanta, you will right down beside downtown Atlanta generally just to the west thus putting the bulk of downtown right out your pilot side window. Then you will cross over Hartsfield watching all the big iron takeoff and land at the busiest airport.
