Hi everyone !

What's the hive say about being able to obtain an 3rd class medical with a diagnosis of generalized anxiety disorder, no medication for over a year?

You must have been reading POA for about the same time huh?
What he said. Go to Medical Topics forum index, click "Search this Forum", type in "anxiety" and click "Go". Should keep you busy for a while. Pay close attention to replies by user bbchien.

IMO, if you're serious about getting your medical, then there's a short cut. Go to www.aeromedicaldoc.com and fill out the contact form. Do exactly what Dr. Bruce says to do. Don't argue with him and don't listen to others' "free advice". Don't expect him to put up with much foolishness.

May not be easy or cheap(Bruce's fees are reasonable, but any necessary psych. eval. will prolly be uninsured), but follow Bruce's advice and you'll have the best chance of ending up with a med. cert.

:yeahthat::yeahthat:
do not pass go - do not collect $200 - do exactly as instructed -don't blow the psych eval. Make sure the headshrinker knows this is a paid eval and the best outcome is no dx code . . .

Hopefully Dr Bruce will chime in here.
So, you're not serious? How many times does the good doctor need to answer the same question in this forum? This isn't Trivial Pursuit.

If you're just curious about the answer, use the search feature. The FAA hasn't changed its mind. If you have the dx and really want a med. cert., contact Dr. B.

Re-reading the OP, you don't actually say that you have the dx... :rolleyes2:

Sigh.
Board certified psychiatrist 4 axis review stating that Axis 1 is now fully resolved will do the job, provided this was a single exposure.

If you've been on and off over the years, all bets are off.
It also matters with what you have been treated, and your life/success/job history.
Nothing speaks more to a diagnosis that life's history (I think there are about 12 subtypes of Anxiety disorders).

So in a way, I'm saying, "not enough information".

Dr Bruce,

Under "Anxiety" it says "May Require FAA Decision--Some AME discretion permitted". What AME discretion is permitted? Can you elaborate? Does that mean if an AME issued a certificate the airmen is all set going forward?

The sad truth (and contrary to what AA believers will tell you), drunks and drug addicts can be cured. ADHD, etc... not so much. Just treated.

The discretion is for ONE episode of exposure to the med documentably lasting less than 6 months, NO DUIs, and a clear reactive stimulus. But enough of the AMEs are being forced to defend this that most simply say, "Psych eval".

GAD is not a good one. Reactive depression is the one for which we have the above latitude.

PSYCH eval. No shucking and dutching. They'll just not certify it.
